This position will work a hybrid schedule which is a combination of working onsite on Campus and Remote.

DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development (SDOD) and with work direction from the Director of Development (DOD), the Assistant Director of Development, Rady School of Management is responsible for delivering and overseeing the execution of donor-centric philanthropic efforts on behalf of the Rady School that helps advance the mission of UC San Diego.

In this role, the Assistant Director of Development will plan and implement strategies for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding leadership and high-end annual gifts, with the goal of establishing and maintaining a portfolio of 120-130 prospects with the capacity to give between $2,500 - 25K+. As they qualify prospects, the Assistant Director will facilitate introductions to other development staff to move prospects into a major gift pipeline as appropriate.

The Assistant Director of Development will play a critical role in developing and executing strategies to grow the impact of the Rady Dean's Circle, a leadership giving society that recognizes donors who support graduate fellowships (financial aid) at the Rady School at the four- and five-figure level. To do so, the Assistant Director will collaborate with volunteers, campus partners, and Advancement colleagues, thereby strengthening a culture of philanthropy on our campus and helping build a sustainable prospect and donor pipeline.

In addition, the Assistant Director will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing budget and revenue projections, as well as partnering with colleagues on event and data management and donor relations activities related to the Rady Dean’s Circle.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group settings, taking into account differences in social, cultural, professional and educational backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently establish objectives, plan, direct, execute and evaluate all logistics of programs, special events, meetings and receptions to strategically enhance donor stewardship. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of events management. Successful negotiating skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction to staff and manage volunteers in accomplishing established goals and objectives and maintain office activities with respect to established procedures and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated experience in the stewardship of potential and current donors that includes developing strategies, opportunities and recognition.

  • Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills. Detail oriented, with demonstrated ability to set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and take into consideration deadlines, competing requirements and complexity.

  • Demonstrated experience with basic accounting principles to manage event and program budgets.

  • Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and project management skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of current management principles and practices; demonstrated ability to develop/manage budgets.

  • Creative ability to conceptualize, develop and implement programmatic activities from only very general guidelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to create database tracking systems to manage donor base, to design reports utilizing complex criteria and to extrapolate and analyze data. Proficiency with exporting and merging data using programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.

  • Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Demonstrated understanding of the importance of ensuring an equitable, inclusive and diverse working environment, with the ability to work as a part of a collaborative team.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze and compile relevant information into summary or report form for the purposes of advancing university-wide development goals.

  • Ability to establish professional working relationships and interact effectively with diverse groups having competing interests and priorities within the university and community, including donors, volunteers, university administrators and faculty.

  • Track acquisition data to determine success of all recruitment events in translating prospects into donors and determining campus interests.

  • Strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including knowledge of accepted principles and practices of marketing and proven effectiveness in speaking one-on-one and making oral presentations. Demonstrated ability to write solicitation appeals effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and respect issues of a sensitive nature and donor confidentiality. Demonstrated integrity, dependability, sound judgment, diplomacy and resourcefulness, with a strong work ethic.

  • Ability to work and excel in a team environment in the presence of multiple, frequently-shifting priorities and across functional areas.

  • Ability to conceptualize, identify and solve problems in a creative and timely manner.

  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 - $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 - $72.56

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
