The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. HJF is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician to p rovide biomedical equipment repair services and technical consultative advice. This is the first of two levels of Biomedical Repair Technicians.

 

This position will be in support of Logistics Department of the Uniformed Services University (USU). 

  • Biomedical Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
    • Repairs, overhauls, modifies, tests and calibrates a full range of medical and research equipment, including systems which utilize image intensification and enhancement with visual monitoring of television type monitors, systems with programmable computer data collection/analysis capabilities and systems with sophisticated automatic sequencing of testing and analyzing of data.
    • Coordinates research of requirements and equipment specifications, and installation, maintenance, operational and safety requirements.
    • Performs routine periodic maintenance on sophisticated items such as ultra-centrifuges, high pressure liquid chromatographs, liquid phase sequencers, lypholizers, spectrophotometers, and electrophoresis equipment.
    • Tests, repairs and calibrates shop equipment and insures accurate repair and calibration procedures on scientific equipment.
    • Accomplishes necessary procedures to ensure adequate records of maintenance work conducted and acquisition and installation of replacement parts to accomplish tasks assigned.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills needed to work in a team environment.
    • Practical knowledge of a wide range of technical engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques, and practices, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to diagnose and repair most equipment typically located in a medical or medical research facility.
    • Familiar with regulatory guidance to include Joint Commission (JC); College of American Pathologists (CAP); Safe Medical Devices Act (SMDA); Environmental Protection Agency; and Code of Federal Regulations (i.e., 21 CFR (Laser & Ultrasounds) and 29 CFR (Safety in the Workplace).
    • Ability to work independently, use sound judgment in solving problems.
    • Provides technical training, assistance, and guidance to lower-graded technicians.
    • Excellent record keeping ability.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a Medical Research Facility.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED require. Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
