Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) Promise Academy – a top-performing K-12 charter school within HCZ’s cradle-to-career pathway of comprehensive services – seeks an Education Director for our Promise Academy Charter Schools.
The Educational Director will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy: to get all our scholars to and through college. The ideal candidate cares deeply about children, respects the culture of Harlem’s residents, and is eager to make an impact in Harlem and beyond.
The mission of HCZ Promise Academy Charter School is to provide a first-rate, year-round, extended-day K-12 school for students living in under-performing school districts. Opened in 2004, HCZ Promise Academy serves close to 1,000 children in two elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. Each year, more students and grades are added with plans to ultimately reach over 2,000 children. Our schools are rooted in the belief that all students are capable of academic and personal success when surrounded by parents, teachers, and mentors who support and maintain the highest expectations.
All children and their families have access to the full array of supportive services of the Harlem Children’s Zone community network. The rigorous academic program and extensive support systems are designed to prepare students to attend, excel in, and graduate from college. The academic year consists of 210 days of school, an increase over the 180 days required by law, which includes a 25-day mandatory summer program. The academic day runs from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, approximately 20% longer than the vast majority of surrounding public schools. Our schools consistently enforce a rigorous code of conduct, dress code, and emphasize personal relationships among students, teachers, and families.
To support our staff, we provide them with bi-weekly professional development, access to top-of-the-line technology, including a personal laptop, and Smartboards and tablets in the classroom. Additionally, our staff is surrounded by colleagues and professionals—ranging from instructional coaches and education directors, to guidance counselors and social workers—all committed to ensuring the success of every child. As a staff member at Promise Academy, you will take your place in a team that seamlessly surrounds children in a safe, enriching environment, ensuring they reach their full potential.
We are seeking an Education Director. This candidate will supervise teachers and report to the Assistant Principal. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem, and a desire to work in a school setting that fosters a love for children.
