Phatnani lab seeks an independent but team-oriented Post-doctoral Research Associate to generate multimodal omics data of gene and protein expression with spatial context, all at scale, over multiple tissue sections at a depth sufficient to permit identification of the rare and heterogeneous senescence cell population. S/he will assemble unified workflows for measuring gene expression, protein abundance, and aggregate cellular composition, utilizing leading-edge technologies that operate at cellular and subcellular resolution in situ, to map cell type-specific senescence markers in the brain, spinal cord, skin, and the relevant biofluids, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood, during aging.Currently, our group received funding to engage in a ground breaking collaboration with multiple departments in which we use the integration of Spatial Transcriptomics (ST), single-nucleus RNA-seq (snRNA-seq) data, and Iterative Indirect Immunofluorescence Imaging (4i)-based proteomic profiling that will enable to generate maps of known and novel senescence-associated markers, senescent cells, and the effects of senescent cells on their surroundings in each tissue type across the human lifespan.Responsibilities may include:+ Learn and Implement workflows for collecting spatially and integrating resolved data in all modalities of the central dogma using current state-of-the-art technologies;+ Develop new methods for collection of spatialy resolved, multi-modal data;+ Coordinate efforts across multiple cores/departments;+ Actively participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and present at scientific conferences;+ Assist in peer- and student-mentorship; and,+ Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed+ Assist with organization and logistics of the laboratoryPosition Requirements+ A minimum of a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, neurobiology or related discipline required;+ In-depth understanding of nucleic acid and protein biochemistry required;+ Prior experience with tissue handling, experimental biochemistry and molecular biology, imaging, and computational analysis are preferred, but exceptionally creative and driven scientists with an interest will be seriously considered;+ Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills required;+ Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time required; and,+ Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills required.Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran
