Education and Engagement Coordinator III – Communications

The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.

The mission of the Allen Institute Administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, Administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the Institute.

The Education & Engagement Coordinator is a key member of the Education & Engagement Program team, part of the Communications department. The team produces educational and training resources that promote the use of the Allen Institute’s open scientific resources to working scientists, PK-12 and college students/instructors/institutions, and the public. The Program encompasses all Allen Institute research including neuroscience, cell biology, immunology, and more.

The Coordinator will assist and support teammates in the development and execution of events, materials, and other resources across the Program portfolio. Working with a designated project lead, projects include: plan and execute live and virtual events; prepare training and educational materials for publication; maintain web resources such as webinars, website content, and resource libraries; organize logistics for conference booths; and supporting team organization of emails, supplies, etc. They will partner with teammates to support the development, planning, and execution of the Allen Institute Teacher Academy; Allen Institute booths at conferences; public events; and other engagements.

The ideal candidate has some experience with educational events, educational settings, or scientific events/conferences. No prior scientific expertise in the Allen Institute’s areas of knowledge is required.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to events, activities, and materials development for the Education and Engagement Program
  • Collaborate with various internal departments and teams to contribute to high-impact education programming
  • Contribute to planning and executing live and virtual events, such as training workshops and the Allen Institute Teacher Academy
  • Curate and maintain online training and education resource libraries
  • Represent the Allen Institute in the education and scientific communities
  • Help collect, analyze, and implement feedback on outcomes from training, education, and outreach programs and resources
  • Administer shared email inbox, organize and maintain program supplies, and perform other key administrative tasks
  • Provide additional programmatic support as needed

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year experience in educational administration, education, science administration, or similar

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with scientific events and/or conferences
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or school
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
  • Strong MS Office experience – Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint. Office 365 experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar software
  • Strong work ethic, sense of urgency, and self-motivation, including the ability to follow through to complete tasks independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization and from a wide variety of backgrounds

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting, up to 30 pounds
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment
  • Push/pull up to 40lbs of equipment on a cart

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • 40 hours/week non-exempt
  • Occasional evening and weekend work
  • This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State?

Travel

  • Occasional travel to regional events, 1-2 times a year

Annualized Salary Range

  • $58,950 - $78,600*

* Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
