Job Description - Staff Algorithms Engineer

The Staff Algorithm Design Engineer will make vital contributions to the Front End Innovation organization and transform patient care through innovation. They are responsible for working with Front End R&D teams to design and develop computational algorithms for use in cutting edge medical devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop computational algorithms using hardware to demonstrate technical feasibility.
  • Translate high-level customer needs into technical options while analyzing trade-offs and business impact.
  • Build prototypes, products, and systems for testing including setting up and running laboratory experiments.
  • Design and execute test procedures, analyze test results, and develop written reports.
  • Generate and present technical material to partners at all levels of the organization.
  • Document designs and specifications per design control processes.
  • Mentor junior members of the engineering staff to expand design team capabilities and establish good working practices.
Education:
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field required; dual degrees or advanced degree preferred
Required:
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience
  • Proven experience in computational algorithm development, signal processing, time series analysis, and/or applied control theory
  • Work experience with and a deep understanding of physical principles and ability to plan, execute, and synthesize analyses across multiple domains, such as mechanical, thermal, electrical, and tissue
  • Demonstrated programming ability (e.g., Python, C, LabVIEW, etc.), and an understanding of Object-Oriented Programming
  • Proficiency with collaborative code version control and associated tools, such as Bitbucket/Git
  • Demonstrated ability working across subject areas with internal and external partners
  • Strong collaboration, proven technical leadership capabilities, and conflict resolution skills
Preferred:

  • Experience formulating and coordinating different engineering approaches to test hypotheses, such as hand calculations, computational modeling and simulation, empirical testing (benchtop and in vivo) and method development as appropriate
  • Intermediate understanding or hands-on experience with anatomy and physiology highly preferred
  • Experience in Machine Learning, Statistics, and Mathematical intuitions to understand the data effectively and build predictive regression and classification models (optimization, PCA, Linear and Logistic regression, LightGBM, XGBoost, Random Forest, SVM, Gaussian Processes, etc.). Familiarity with Deep Learning frameworks like Tensorflow, Pytorch, etc.
  • Experience with Model Predictive Control
  • Experience working with databases and associated tools (SQL, Microsoft Azure, Dataiku, etc.)
  • Ability to handle semi-structured and unstructured data
  • Experience working with numerical methods, applied differential equations, stability, linear algebra, signal processing, and/or signal digitization
  • Design control experience

  • Requires up to 10% travel, domestic and international travel
