Job Description - Staffing Specialist

Location/Division Specific Information:

St. Louis, MO/ Drug Substance Division (Biologics)

The St. Louis Site is a fast paced, 24/7 biologic drug substance manufacturing facility with approximately 900 employees, but by year end we will be close to 1,000 employees due to our recent site expansion in 2023.

This is an impactful role for the organization requiring the ability to truly partner with business leaders supporting/driving Attraction & Retention initiatives for the St. Louis site. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated self-starter who has a strong project management background combined with prior knowledge and/or experience of a recruitment process.

This position will Act as a liaison with Talent Acquisition to assist with filling vacancies in a timely manner. It will also nurture and support partnerships and programs with academic leaders that will support the long-term early career talent needs of the organization in alignment with the workforce hiring plans for the site. This exciting opportunity will create and implement strategies that bridge talent needs with targeted key colleges and Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) to build talent pipeline as well as create programs to pro-actively educate, attract, and hire collegiate talent. The role is also responsible for the alignment, and implementation of Summer Internship and Co-Op programs at the St. Louis site.

A Day in the Life:

  • Use data on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to drive the partnership between Talent Acquisition and business and functional leaders to ensure we are securing the right talent for the right roles quickly.
  • Coordinate the logistics for Thermo Fisher on and offsite hiring events with Site HR, the business, Talent Acquisition, facilities and the administrative team.
  • Partner with managers, functional business leaders, and executive sponsors by conducting regular partner meetings and communicating relevant metric analysis to find opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of the onboarding process for new hires including a 30/60/90 plan.
  • Collaborate to identify key critical capability areas that require pipeline talent, develop robust strategies to partner with colleges and universities, and to work with site leaders to implement actions to hire identified talent.
  • Establish relationships with key internal partners, universities, colleges and technical institutions to execute on the long-term strategies surrounding the key workforce needs with a specific focus on diversity and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the site college and universities reps to create a schedule of the upcoming local events, execute the fair registration, coordinate the career fair materials and ensure we have colleagues attending those events.
  • Ensure universities and students have a seamless experience with Thermo Fisher throughout any recruitment and onboarding process.
  • Use the Thermo Fisher network to research and identify successful co-op programs. Then collaborate with business leaders, Site Human Resources and University Relations COE to translate those findings to help build a robust co-op program to meet the short and long-term needs for early and mid-level talent.

Keys to Success:

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of previous Staffing Coordinator experience or a similar role preferred; Educational equivalency with additional years of experience may be considered.

Experience:

Experience is focused on Human Resources/university recruiting experience, with at least two (2) years leading university recruiting or early-career talent sourcing efforts.

Proven project management capabilities.

Experience developing and leading robust development, rotational, internship and co-op programs is preferred.

Experience creating recruiting strategies such as process improvement strategic sourcing, diversity initiatives preferred.

Experience in developing strong relationships with university representatives and student programs preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of talent acquisition and various talent attractions strategies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Must possess the presentation skills and professionalism to project a professional image both internally and externally.
  • Proven project and time management skills with the ability to thrive in a faced-paced matrix environment and balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • High level of discretion with confidential materials.
  • Ability to collaborate and leverage a network.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

Some travel may be required.

A flexible work schedule is required.

Ability to lift 25 lbs independently.
