Job Description - Associate Director, Preclinical Research Support

About the role:
The Associate Director, Preclinical Research Support is responsible for managing and executing the pre-clinical research strategy in support of worldwide product approvals consistent with division goals including the direction, planning, execution, analysis, and interpretation of preclinical research for assigned therapeutic area. Will manage multiple programs, and interface with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Supervises other managers, supervisors, and staff members and participates in advanced planning and departmental management.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Guides achievement of project deliverables in therapeutic area(s).
  • Establishes and approves scientific methods for research protocol design and implementation, data collection systems, and final reports.
  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards, ensuring compliance.
  • Drives site qualification, training, audits, and GLP compliance.
  • Establishes departmental systems for regulatory compliance in pre-clinical research.
  • Authors regulatory/pre-clinical submissions and facilitates pre-clinical research with internal/external groups.
  • Manages and develops Pre-clinical staff, achieving outcomes through effective leadership.
  • Coordinates project prioritization and plans pre-clinical resources for R&D teams.
  • Conducts briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives.
  • Acts as a coach to resolve staff performance or technical/operational issues, while developing future leaders.
  • Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to pre-clinical policies and procedures.
  • Attends important professional meetings nationally and internationally.
  • May lead teams to achieve organizational goals, foster workplace diversity, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Manages professional employees, may occasionally manage subordinate M2/M3, M4s, sets team/department priorities and allocates resources.
  • Influences the opinions and decision making of others internally or with external partners/vendor/customers to achieve department objectives; persuades peers and higher level managers (e.g. M6s-M7s) and builds consensus to take action/ adopt recommendations.

 

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of preclinical research experience with 5 years being in the medical device industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience in an environment adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, DVM, etc.)
