AAM is seeking candidates that are passionate about automotive manufacturing, excel academically, demonstrate leadership capabilities, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates must be enrolled as a full-time student from an accredited college or university in an associates, undergraduate or graduate degree program. Candidates must also be able to present evidence of academic excellence.
We are currently seeking a candidate for a mechanical design, automotive technology or Mechanical Engineering College Co-op position at our Advanced Technology Development Center in Detroit, MI.

Job Description

• Participate in R&D activities and support such activities for strategic product development initiatives that might give AAM an edge in the global market.
• Support technology demonstrations in the form of prototype vehicle builds and modifications
• Build display properties for showcasing AAM’s products at trade shows and tech days
• Work with AAM team and suppliers to move vehicles, pick up parts, take vehicles for maintenance, etc.
• Assist with marketing related vehicle usage, ride and drives and customer technology demonstrations
• Help keep vehicles clean inside and out so they are customer show ready at all times
• Assist the innovation team with accounting tasks like writing requisitions and collecting receipts for month end accounting
• Assist with preparing vehicles and parts for seasonal hot / cold weather vehicle testing
• Work on various photo and video related demonstration projects
• Manages time to accomplish results including project planning, cost and timing details
• Obtains knowledge of department and its operations.

Required Skills and Education

• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate automotive technology, repair or engineering program with a graduation date of April 2025 or later.
• Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 required
• Current Michigan driver’s license on good standing (no probation)
• Comfortable with hand tools and vehicle mechanical fundamentals
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy of information.
• Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to learn other programs
• Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Formula Electric or SAE Supermileage team experience preferred
• Interest and or experience in cars, electronics or auto racing
• Interest in remote control cars a plus
• Desire to travel around school schedule for desert / winter vehicle testing
• Interest in becoming a Tier 2 certified driver
• Interest or experience with 3D printing
• Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship
