Food Scientist – Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin

Responsible for the team research and development of food color formulations while supporting Quality and Production with troubleshooting issues with current formulations. This position requires knowledge of food chemistry, ingredient production, and analytical quality testing.
Responsibilities:
Communication between different departments and teams for collaboration, research, and development.
Adapt and manage changes in focus and priorities.
Setup, validate, troubleshoot, and maintain Laboratory equipment.
Troubleshoot production issues on current formulations.
Advise on and work to provide technical approval for process modifications through change management systems.
Evaluate raw materials and adjust color formulations.
Maintains safe working environment by practicing established safety procedures.
Evaluate and validate Quality Control methods.
Learn and use equipment in lab with minimal supervision.
Participate in the evaluation of materials suppliers and co-manufacturers.
Maintains ownership of production specifications and external customer specifications. Creates specification sheets if needed.
Assists in approval of ingredients.
Formulation validation of new products and/or new vendors.
Compounds and QCs products following good manufacturing practices.
Conducts colorimetry and bulk color stability testing.
Serves as technical resource for business support functions,
Provides general formulation information for customer approval.
Evaluate shelf life, packaging, and storage parameters as needed.
Write project reports and keep good documentation for internal use.
Follows SOP’s and keeps accurate research notes and documents as instructed.
Update or write SOP’s and work instructions as needed.
Requirements:
BS or MS in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
Understanding of chemistry, food ingredient processing and analytical chemistry.
Industry experience strongly preferred – but not required.
Ability to adapt, work well with others, maintain ethical, professional, and reliable actions in the workplace.
