Job Description - Machine Operator (Slicing/Wire Saws)

Machine Operator (Slicing/Wire Saws)

This Machine Operator position involves running multiple pieces of equipment and machinery to perform silicon ingot slicing. It will take place in a semi-cleanroom environment where operators must wear PPE including safety glasses or goggles, latex or Nitrile and nylon gloves, safety shoes, and hair and/or beard net(s). Use of ear plugs is optional.

Operators are responsible for following complex, detailed procedures and to complete documentation per specifications to meet daily targets on time and without defect. They will be cross trained to eventually become certified to rotate among multiple process areas within the department

Operators work 12-hour Shifts, 6am to 6pm for the Day Shift, or 6pm to 6am for the Night Shift, on a compressed workweek alternating 3-ON/4-OFF and 4-ON/3-OFF weekly schedules which require working every other weekend and will likely entail additional overtime days when needed. For night shift positions, training may need to take place on the day shift for the first few months potentially. Ideal candidates will be open to working both Day or Night Shift. Night shift employees receive additional 15% shift differential compensation incentive.

Additional Essential Job Functions and requirements include:

PHYSICAL:

- Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force often, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects, and may be walking, standing, or in motion while performing these tasks.

- Pushes a cart on wheels weighing approx. 20 lbs, and occasionally up to approx. 400 lbs.

- Turns a crank using 10 lbs of continuous force

- Holds hand drill above head approx. 22 times during a 12 hour shift

- Exerts pressure on robotic equipment buttons, levers, and cranks to stop, start, and command movements or actions of equipment

- Twist & remove 2 large bolts holding wire spools in place with a 5 ft. long torque wrench 0 to 4 times per shift, then remove & replace spools

- Torque wrench exerts 170 ft. lbs or 230 Newton Meters on 1 bolt & 125 ft. lbs or 170 Newton Meters on 2nd bolt

- Fit inside a glue machine opening for maintenance and operate machine approx. 19” wide x 36” height.

- Additional repetitive motion, grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting as needed

- Available to work all hours, all shifts, and over time as required or as requested.

COGNITIVE:

- Review work orders and set a schedule based on requirements for each order and customer specifications and processing times for each step of the manufacturing process.

- Use a computer keyboard to input data into Excel, track and confirm each process, and complete computerized forms and labels for each order, complete requests for delivery of materials and equipment per work order and schedule requirements

- Continuously monitor, analyze, and verify that all data and all processes are correct and meet quality, order specifications, weights, calibrations, during each process and after each process is completed, before moving the order on to the next process step.

- Operate robotic or automated equipment to lift, hoist, unload, raise, lower, transport ingots, wafers, tools, and/or other equipment.

- Perform tasks to clean equipment and the area to meet standards for each manufacturing process.

- Must be able to multi task, input and interpret data and analyze facts to determine problems, solutions, course of action, while still keeping quality high.

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute percentages, per unit costs, and decimals using a calculator, Excel software, or other method.

QUALITY:

- Follows all documented training, procedures, and processes to meet quality standards.

- Reports and takes action to prevent or variations, errors, or lapses in quality.

- Ensures quality issues are reported, corrected, and not repeated

- Identifies and reports suggestions for improvement to supervisor or other appropriate manager.

SAFETY:

- Completes all tasks using safe behaviors

- Puts safety first and foremost and never puts safety after deadlines, other goals, or tasks

- Acts as a role model in safety with co-workers.

- Immediately reports all on the job accidents and injuries

- Reports unsafe conditions or situations, asks for guidance to ensure safety, requests and requires safety training.

- Reports damage, an accident, maintenance needs, or repairs to the supervisor, appropriate manager, or safety staff.

- Operator can be subjected to hazards including being close to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding, heights, underground or low depths, and chemicals.

VISUAL ACUITY:

- Must have ability to prepare/analyze/create data, extensive reading, visual inspection of small parts, errors, defects, fabrication, words, and numbers

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

- Experienced, proficient, and accurate in the use of a computer, keyboard, and a monitor.

- Experience in software use, such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook e-mail, or other similar software is desired

- Can operate a calculator, copier, fax, scanner, cell phone, and telephone.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

- Must have ability to speak effectively in English with management and co-workers

- Must have ability to read and write in English

- Ability to create, read, comprehend, and explain instructions, procedures, technical and informational manuals, reports, correspondence for self and for others written in English.
