Job Description - Mechanical Design Engineer, Supercharger

Tesla Energy is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to take ownership over mechanical design of key sub-systems for the Tesla Supercharger. The role requires strong fundamentals, a passion to push the boundaries of technology and the tenacity to make your designs successful. The Supercharger mechanical design team is a fun, diverse group of engineers, working to design world class charging hardware. We are responsible for major system architecture decisions, detailed design and simulation, and hardcore mechanical design of all elements of the Supercharger system. We are responsible for the success of the product from the early ideation phase all the way to mass production. The Supercharger engineering team is one of the few teams at the company that works on core Tesla tech, high power distribution, while also working on products that everyday people interact with. We are looking for mission driven, enthusiastic design engineers with a passion for hands on work. What You'll Do Modeling and design of mechanical components and assemblies including sheet metal, structural metals, high voltage distribution, plastics, environmental sealing materials, fasteners, and other componentsMechanical design analysis including structural finite element analysis, design for assembly, design for manufacturing, and design for testWork with cross-functional teams to refine specifications and achieve product performance, aesthetic, schedule, cost, reliability, and quality targetsCollaborate with thermal, systems, electrical, sourcing, manufacturing, and reliability teams to take designs from prototype through mass productionDevelop engineering test plans for designsAssist in engineering prototype builds and component fabricationRoot cause and solve test failures and production problemsCreate high quality drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies What You'll Bring 2+ years of product design experienceBachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalentExperience designing for high-volume assembly and manufacturingExperience designing products with a large bill of materialsExperience designing products for outdoor environments, including IP/NEMA environmental sealsStrong engineering fundamentals in mechanics, heat transfer, and fluidsExperience with various manufacturing processes such as metal stamping, extruding, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, plastic injection molding, thermoforming, and bondingExperience in designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automatedExperience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing dataProficiency in CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 experience a plus but not mandatoryExperience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc. Benefits
