Mechatronics (Advanced Robotics & Manufacturing) Instructor (Grant Funded FT, with benefits) Position Title: Mechatronics (Advanced Robotics & Manufacturing) Instructor (Grant Funded FT, with benefits) Department: Engineering Technology Campus : West Hills Center Additional Information: This position will remain open until filled. Remote Work Option: Fully In-Person Job Category: Faculty/Counselor/Librarian/Ed Tech/Academic Advisor Employment Type: Grant Funded Full-Time Job Slot: G679 Job Open Date: 6/7/2024 Job Close Date: General Summary: The primary responsibilities of the faculty are to teach and to develop the curriculum. To meet these responsibilities, faculty must remain knowledgeable about advances in their disciplines, in learning theory, and in pedagogy. Faculty portfolios will include contributions and program development and show evidence of ongoing professional development. Position Summary: This position will teach 15 credits per semester in mechatronics or related disciplines in which they qualify. In addition to teaching faculty duties and responsibilities, this position will be responsible for designing curriculum that leverages next generation manufacturing equipment, and creating lessons that bring advanced industrial concepts into the classroom. This requires individuals to take cutting-edge advances in robotics technology, like the Internet of Things and collaborative robots and integrate them into various classroom activities. This position will also facilitate collaborations between four-year educational institutions, and coordinate tours, visits and other activities in the new workforce development building. Requirements: Master's degree preferred in engineering technology discipline or a closely related field. Minimum requirement is a bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of experience in engineering or engineering technology field. Preferred Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in engineering, robotics, manufacturing, or a similar technical field, with at least four years of related experience programming, interfacing and configuring networked robots. Direct experience with next-generation robotic systems, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), collaborative robots, teach pendant programming, workcell design, and manufacturing execution systems is highly preferred. Additional preference given to individuals with program development, lab design, and post-secondary teaching experience, as well as individuals who have direct experience in implementing a lights-out factory or production line, including interfacing Internet of Things sensors and devices. Must exhibit strong attention to detail, manage responsibilities in a high-energy environment, and work both independently and collaboratively. Must also exhibit strong communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an entrepreneurial attitude to creatively, adaptively, and enthusiastically take on many challenges at once. Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license. Duties: FACULTY DUTIES: 1. The primary responsibilities of faculty are to teach and to develop the curriculum. Prepare and provide students with course outlines that support learning objectives set forth in the course syllabus. Develop and measure learning outcomes. Assess student performance and maintain grade records. 2. Create an effective learning environment through the use of a variety of instructional methods.

  • Collaborate in the development and continued assessment of learning outcomes for use in program reviews and curriculum revision.
  • Work with other program and/or discipline faculty to complete scheduled program reviews and to use the findings to revise the curriculum.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge and instructional methods.
  • Participate in department/discipline, division, campus, and college meetings and committees.
  • Participate in college projects, surveys, studies, and reports that relate to the discipline or program.
  • Collaborate in the development of program and/or discipline promotional materials.
  • Maintain five office hours each week.
  • Support the college's goals.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

GRANT RELATED DUTIES: 1. Work closely with the PI of the Build Back Better New Economy Careers grant, department head, and appropriate academic division administrator(s) to fulfill obligations of the grant. 2. Serve as a point of contact for students working in the collaborative robotics lab, additive manufacturing space, and CP Factory in the new workforce development building. 3. Work with K-12 partners to facilitate and teach advanced manufacturing courses at partner high schools using portable equipment and trainers. 4. Create production code to run low-volume manufacturing systems from the intake of raw material to the output of finished goods, stored in an inventory system. 5. Responsible for compiling grant reporting data for specified time periods. 6. Participate in lab social media and promotion activities. 7. Perform other related duties as required or assigned, including internal controls regarding safeguarding of department assets, inventory, maintenance of equipment, safety measure standards in laboratory. The faculty duties and other duties of this position outlined above are representative of a maximally compensated full-time faculty workload, including overages, for purposes of the AFT CBA. No additional compensation will be provided for any additional duties assigned, unless related to non-credit teaching. Clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
