Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is currently seeking a Communications Specialist to shape and convey the organization’s messages to both internal stakeholders and external audiences.
What You’ll Do - Collaborate with Marketing and Foundation as cross-functional teams to gather information and insights for content creation, supporting CHS and departmental communication goals.
- Write compelling content and messaging that effectively communicates the organization’s mission, values, and impact to diverse audiences both internally and externally.
- Generate content and produce CHS news on our internal communication platform.
- Generate content and produce our monthly Board of Director’s newsletter in collaboration with the Chief Philanthropy Officer.
- Create and maintain a positive public identity for the CHS through ongoing public relations, including writing press releases that are distributed to established statewide media outlets in a timely manner.
- Write media pitches to cultivate earned media. Assist in scheduling media interviews with designated CHS spokespersons to promote CHS. Provide responses to media requests for information and monitor public opinions.
- Plan and manage social media strategy to engage and increase CHS’s following.
- Maintain the monthly calendar to meet established social media goals. Monitor online activity across social media channels and respond to questions and comments in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Assist in crisis communication efforts, providing timely and accurate information to stakeholders as needed.
- Uphold brand guidelines and standards across all communications materials.
- Assist with writing, editing, updating and proofreading marketing collaterals.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM
Compensation: $60,000-$75,000 DOE

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field is required.
- Experience in marketing and written communications required.
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software utilized by office.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, etc. Extended PC viewing and keyboarding required. Extended periods of sedentary work required. *Must successfully complete all required background/pre-employment checks. EEO/AA.
