Job Description - Controller

Molecular Products, Inc. MPI is located in Louisville, Colorado (20 miles from Boulder) and has an aggressive growth strategy, relying on rapid organic growth augmented by acquisitions which we expect to double sales and profit over the next 3-year period. 

 

Reporting to the global CFO and leading a team of three, the Controller is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, costing, monthly closing and related financial, cost, margin and operating analyses.

General Accounting Responsibilities (40%):

  • Preparation of financial statements
  • Perform monthly account analysis, accrual summaries, and roll forward for Balance Sheet Accounts
  • Perform monthly account analysis and roll forward for Profit/Loss Accounts
  • Review monthly cost center actual vs. budget analysis
  • Responsible for physical asset management, accounting, and depreciation (book and tax)
  • Analyze and report on detailed monthly cost-center performance
  • Analyze and report on sales volume, price, and mix
  • Complete month-end cut-off procedures and reporting in a timely and accurate manner
  • Review and analyze Capex projects (Budget, Actuals, and Forecast)

Costing/Inventory Responsibilities (40%):

  • Establishing, maintaining, and/or reviewing product costing and departmental spending
  • Tracking and analyzing daily work orders, product costs, and variances
  • Tracking and analyzing labor rates, headcount, overtime, and overall labor spend/utilization
  • Establishing, reviewing, and validating manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOMs), Routings, and Yields for accuracy, completeness, and workflow efficiency.
  • Communicate with Operations teams regarding BOM, routing, and/or production yield variance inconsistencies.
  • Adjust and communicate cost changes when necessary
  • Daily review of shipped not-invoiced items; find route cause and resolve
  • Adjust/update production variances when necessary and communicate to Operations teams
  • Review Cost of Sales and adjust when necessary
  • Analyze production and material overhead/burden absorption; adjust/communicate accordingly
  • Analyze inventory and inventory aging detail to measure and ensure proper valuation
  • Review of inventory aging and obsolescence; communication with ops for alternative uses
  • Review inventory activity and ensure proper cut-off
  • Participate in and review cycle counting
  • Review all inventory adjustments recorded to G/L and item sub-ledgers
  • Perform Inventory roll forward and reconcile sub-ledger to GL

Finance / Accounting Special Projects (20%):

  • Assist in audits
  • Assist in preparation of company, departmental, and project budgets
  • Participating in ad-hoc projects as necessary
  • Review and implement process improvements to ERP Systems
  • Min 4-year Accounting degree required; additional education and certification desired.
  • Minimum 5 years of cost & general accounting/finance experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Microsoft Office knowledge with extensive proficiency/knowledge around Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with ERP Systems
  • Ability to self-motivate, take responsibility, and lead projects to fruition
  • Excellent analytical, communications, quantitative and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Sense of urgency and focus on execution/details.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced with cross-functional teams
  • Fast turnaround of information and requested reports, teamwork, productivity and capacity expansion.
