We are seeking a Director, FSQ Regulatory Compliance to join our corporate team. This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership in food safety and regulatory compliance, risk avoidance strategies and recall management. You will lead the strategy around food safety risk management and act as the recall coordinator for the company. This role can be based either at our corporate office in Bloomington, MN or can be a remote based role. There will be ~75% travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership on food safety and regulatory compliance to ensure a food safety culture throughout the company. Ensure food safety and regulatory compliance metrics are communicated to all key stakeholders.
  • Lead and ensure food safety continuous improvement initiatives are developed and executed.
  • Provide strategic leadership on food safety risk management including risk assessments and communication. Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to develop and lead the implementation of strategic plans to manage and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with technical community to design food safety into products, processes and facilities. Validate capital expenditures to ensure compliance to sanitary construction and design, functionality, food safety and food sanitation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to review new product platforms for food safety and regulatory concerns.
  • Provide leadership to assure all food safety HACCP plans and food safety prerequisite programs are effective and scientifically substantiated. Provide direction and guidance to FSQ team on effectiveness of co-pack and raw ingredients supplier food safety programs.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership to assure all food safety and regulatory policies (USDA/FDA/Corporate) and procedures are maintained and followed.
  • Collaborate with food safety & quality teams to ensure sanitation and environmental monitoring programs are effective and substantiated.
  • Develop food safety and regulatory training and collaborate with key internal stakeholders to execute training programs.
  • As recall coordinator, provide strategic and tactical leadership for recall management corporate best practices.
  • Coordinate recall simulations. Participate as active member of Food Safety Advisory Team (FSAT). Stay current on industry recall expectations.
  • Collaborate with technical community to develop food safety and microbiology scientific studies. Provide strategic leadership for company food safety & quality auditing program.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to enhance and execute 2nd and 3rd party audit policies, programs and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in food science, food microbiology or equivalent. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience including multi-site management of quality and food safety systems and programs. Must have strong food safety and microbiology background.
  • Advanced knowledge of food safety management principles.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of food regulations (including but not limited to USDA/FDA).
  • Strong knowledge of GFSI standards and expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Experience with scientific methods and experimental design.
  • Strong knowledge of food microbiology; understanding of toxicology principles.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills and developing a team of direct reports.
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity.
  • Outstanding organizational, time management and project management skills.
