Job Description:

Title: Outreach and Open Educational Resources Librarian

Unit: Full Time/MCCC Day

Department: Library

Reports To: Library Director

General Summary:

The Outreach and Open Educational Resources Librarian leads the library's efforts in reaching and serving its diverse populations. The Outreach and Open Educational Resources Librarian publicizes and promotes the library as the knowledge center of the campus community through programming, research help and information literacy instruction, exhibitions, marketing, publications, and orientation. The Outreach and Open Educational Resources Librarian also supports the college's open education resources (OER) initiative by evaluating and assessing the initiative. Participates and promotes discovery, creation, sharing and development of affordable no cost or low-cost educational material. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and other campus partners to promote the adoption of these resources. May perform other library duties as needed.

Examples of Duties:

  • Primary provider of outreach services.
  • Promoting the library using traditional and social media.
  • Designing, organizing, and directing outreach and promotional events.
  • Meeting with campus groups, clubs, and academic organizations in order to promote library services.
  • Develop a marketing plan representing the library at various campus activities (Open Houses, Orientation, etc.)
  • Designing and organizing programming that highlights the services available in the library.
  • Develops and sustains strategic partnerships with campus stakeholders to promote the adoption, adaptation or creation and use of OER or low-cost resources.
  • Guides faculty in the discovery, creation, dissemination, identification, adoption, and assessment of high quality open and affordable course content.
  • Assesses current state of our institutional OER initiative and makes recommended improvements.
  • Acts as RCC's representative to the state OER Advisory Council.
  • Acts as lead person on RCC's Go Open OER initiative.
  • CO-chair of OER steering committee
  • Creates OER-related instructional resources, including webpages, tutorials, and workshops.
  • Collects OER data statistics.
  • Maintains OER repository hub.
  • Participates in course marking.
  • Provide reference and instruction services as needed.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

All candidates must have legal rights to work in the United States
ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library/ Information Science.

PREFERED (DESIRED) QUALIFICATIONS:

Working experience in an academic setting.
Knowledge of or experience with best practices regarding the adoption, adaptation and creation of open educational resources.
Knowledge of broad trends and issues relating to open education, open pedagogy, open licensing, open access and copyright.
Ability to interact effectively and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty and staff.
Working knowledge of Library Science techniques.
Working knowledge of basic computer business applications.
Working knowledge of automated library systems. Knowledge of Koha is a plus.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong customer service and outreach orientation.

Additional Information:

This Position is a Full Time MCCC, grade 5 position.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm (with some evening and/or weekends hours possible.)

This is a full-time, MCCC position (37.5 hrs), with full benefits.

Compensation: Per the  MCCC Grade 5  Professional Staff Salary Grid, salary is commensurate with Education and Experience in accordance with the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
