Job Description - Firmware Engineer

Firmware Engineer; Join Us in Powering Planet Cool! 

Location: Durham, NC

THE ROLE

As a Firmware Engineer at Kempower, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the ever-evolving EV market. On a typical day, you'll be responsible for defining and delivering software requirements to meet the needs of North American customers as we expand into the market. Although a solid foundation in coding is necessary, you will focus on delivering prototype software solutions and working with our Finland team to deliver production code, making a direct impact on our mission to revolutionize transportation.

In this role you will

  • Full stack firmware development on all layers of the application: frontend, serverlessbackend, REST APIs and databases. 
  • Solving customer problems using software solutions
  • Having direct collaboration with internal customers and stakeholders from other development teams, RDI and other functions.
  • A good understanding of UX design tools and processes and experience of working with professional designers on systems
  • Taking responsibility for the functional and technical behavior of the ChargEye system (specific parts, services and components).
  • Planning new features in collaboration with the development team, product management and internal/external stakeholders/customers.
  • Serving as a local expert between the US based project managers and the primary software development team in Finland

In this role, occasional travelling may be required.

WHAT HELPS YOU SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:   

  • 3+ years experience as a software engineer, firmware engineer, or other related field
  • Experience in both embedded Linux development and cloud based systems
  • Eagerness to collaborate across global development teams and build relationships between teams

WHAT HELPS YOU STAND OUT:

  • Familiarity with EV charging, Charge Point Operators, or government programs (NEVI, CTEP) that support the electrification industry
  • Experience with implementing charging system protocols (OCPI, OCPP, etc.)
