If you share our passion for strengthening physician care, we invite you to apply for the Microbiology & Molecular Laboratory Assistant position in Knoxville, Tennessee where Labcorp is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join their Microbiology & Molecular team. The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for performing specimen sorting, specimen accessioning, specimen processing, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures.

The work schedule for this position will be: Monday - Friday, 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Introduce and prepare biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing, and unpack and route specimens to their respective staging areas
• Open specimens and pour off into secondary containers to prepare for analysis and testing
• Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted and data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes
• Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results
• Resolve and document any problem specimens

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• No relevant experience is required, but previous medical or production experience is preferred
• Proficient computer and typing skills and a high level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve
• Must pass standardized color vision test and be comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples
• Ability to lift up to 30lbs, work in protective equipment and sit/stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

FLU - New Team Members will be required to present proof of influenza immunization or will be given the influenza vaccine during the pre-employment screening by Occupational Medicine or during hospital orientation between September 1 and March 31. Dates may be extended based upon community flu burden. New Team Members employed outside of months when influenza vaccine is available will be informed of the policy and will be expected to comply with vaccination the next influenza season.
