Job Description - Nursing Education Coordinator

Nursing Education Coordinator Location Nashville, TN (Fisk - Meharry area) :

Education

Master's Nursing Preferred

Bachelor's Nursing Required Certifications &Licensure Active TN nursing license or compact state. Required

BLS Instructor Preferred

ACLS Instructor Preferred Experience

2 years Healthcare ED or ICU - Registered Nurse Preferred

Additional experience requirements

Two years proven experience in Nursing/Education/Quality. Experience in integrated health systems in an academic medical center preferred. Knowledge of short and long-range planning, program and instructional development, quality indicators and data analysis, Joint Commission and CMS requirements for acute care operations and provision of care nursing practice. Certification in Nursing Professional Development preferred.

Collaborates with patient care services at all levels, interdisciplinary and other stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with nursing staff and other disciplines at all levels in the development, implementation, and evaluation of education programs and services.
  • Assists in the creation of education tools and training based upon identified needs of the hospital.
  • Works with the Director of Nursing Education to evaluate and modify training materials to maximize success and ensure training fully represents the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Collaborates with the department of human resources to ensure nursing staff meets orientation, annual in-service, competency, and certification requirements.
  • Oversee training/performance of new and existing NGH staff and provide specific feedback and mentorship.
  • Creates, modifies, and delivers clinical and non-clinical training programs resulting from needs assessments.
  • Assesses content of clinical and non-clinical in-service programs and makes revisions based on performance improvement data, accrediting agency standards, and Risk Management findings.
  • Collaborates with various departments of nursing/patient care for provision of seamless training to ensure uninterrupted delivery of services.

  • Demonstrates a professional attitude and supports objectives of the hospital's marketing and guest relation philosophy through internal and external communication and interaction with all levels of staff, patients, family members, guests, community, and referral sources.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with a variety of individuals regardless of racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, or sociological backgrounds.

Oversees development and implementation of education programs that ensures that coordination of care is consistent with the standards of accreditation and regulatory bodies.

  • Assist to develop unit specific training acts as an advocate for new nursing hires at Nashville General during the orientation period. Utilizes a skills checklist to verify new hire's performance skills.
  • Develops an annual education needs survey for the nursing staff, and uses the results to plan for the calendar year
  • Prepares program goals and objectives for programs that are presented to staff,
  • distributes program evaluation forms and summarizes results for program enhancement.
  • Ensures that nursing is trained in the use of new equipment.
  • Participates in strategic planning with Nursing Administra
  • Develops programs that include evidenced-based, current practice or process improvement for unit-based instruction.
  • Establishes forums for Best Practices that are specific to high volume diagnoses.

Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice through outcome management and performance goals.

  • Confers with nursing leadership and the hospital's quality department to determine care issues and develop a system for providing instructions to reduce issues or occurrences.
  • Meets with nursing leadership to discuss documentation trends that surface.
  • during chart reviews, to determine staff training and remediation needs.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary evaluation teams.
