Job Description On the Trail of the Ancients... The Community - Acoma Pueblo
Acoma Pueblo is regarded as the oldest continuously inhabited community in the United States. Access to the pueblo is difficult as the faces of the mesa are sheer. Before modern times access was gained only by means of a hand-cut staircase carved into the sandstone. There are several interpretations of origin of the name "Acoma ". Some believe that the name Acoma comes from the Keresan words for the People of the White Rock, with aa'ku meaning white rock, and meh meaning people. Others believe that the word aa'ku actually comes from the word haaku meaning to prepare; a description that would accurately reflect the defensive position of the mesa's inhabitants. Today, fewer than 50 tribal members live year-round in the earthen homes of Sky City. Those living in the community tend to the massive San Estevan del Rey Mission, completed in 1640. Both the mission and pueblo have been designated as a Registered National Historical Landmarks. Nearly 3,000 additional tribal members live in the nearby villages of Acomita, McCarty's and Anzac. Explore Acoma Pueblo The Facility- Acoma Canoncito Laguna Service Unit The hospital provides general medical, pediatric, and obstetric inpatient care with 25 beds. ACL also houses a Dialysis Unit and the New Sunrise Regional Treatment Center, a residential program for adolescents. The hospital offers a full range of outpatient and dental services as well as several specialty clinics, utilizing a combination of direct and contract services. Full diagnostic and treatment facilities support outpatient care. Well-baby, diabetic, prenatal and general medical clinics are scheduled weekly. The field health program consists of health services that include health education, public health nursing, social services, nutrition, school health programs, environmental health, and alcohol and substance abuse services.

Requirements (include but are not limited)

• Shall perform nursing duties and manage patient's needs
• Shall provide full range of Emergency services to patients in the Emergency Department.
• Shall exercise knowledge of the nursing process and its application to clinical practice in order to provide individualized, goal-oriented nursing care to the adult/pediatric patient.
• Shall exercise knowledge of scientific and psychosocial nursing theory, principles, practices and techniques in order to plan and provide quality nursing care which meets the physical, spiritual, and social-cultural needs of the patient, regardless of background/ethnicity.
• Shall exercise knowledge of biological aspects of disease processes and illness in order to recognize complications and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions required.
• Shall exercise knowledge of the medications and dosages in order to recognize their desired effects, side-effects and complications and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions required.
• Shall analyze the results of various medical procedures and translate them into appropriate nursing interventions.
• Shall work effectively and harmoniously within the health care team and with native patients and their families.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree/diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
• Must have thirty-six (36) months of nursing experience, with a minimum of twelve months (12) in the specialty required.
• Shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
• It is mandatory that the applicant possesses current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), and higher recommended Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC), Nurse Specialty Certification (e.g. CNOR, Fetal monitoring) is preferred.
