Job Description - Senior Manager, Consumer Insights, Magic

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Consumer Insights to join our team! The Senior Manager, Consumer Insights will join the growing Analytics, Insights, & Measurement group as an embedded partner to Wizards’ Magic: The Gathering teams, specifically those responsible for brand and franchise strategies, product development, and marketing. The anchoring motivation of the person in this role is a deep passion and curiosity about the needs and motivations of gamers, fans, and collectors, which they will use to courageously share consumer truths, trends, and insights with partner teams!

 

The ideal candidate has broad and seasoned capabilities across quantitative and qualitative primary research, data analysis, project management, and a strong consultative skill set. They will proactively develop research agendas, prioritize problems, recommend solutions, and advocate for insight adoption with our business partners.

 

This is a hybrid position, which is a combination of onsite and remote based in the Renton, WA area.

 

A Day in the Life of the Senior Manager of Consumer Insights:

  • Be the voice of current and prospective Magic: The Gathering players, using consumer and competitor insights to influence franchise strategies, products, and marketing.
  • Proactively connect initiatives to the Magic: The Gathering team’s milestones with insights agendas tied to planning and development cycles.
  • In collaboration with the Sr. Director, Insights, they will prioritize business questions and requests for Magic across audience, category/competitive, brand/franchise, creative, and commercial needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Magic’s Product Insights team, building complementary insights agendas for common business partners, synthesizing and co-presenting when needed.
  • Scope, design, and lead consumer research studies using custom and standardized approaches, including mixed-method foundational studies, segmentations, brand tracking, and messaging/campaign testing.
  • Recommend optimal approaches to consumer sampling within insights initiatives based on objectives determined in partnership with business partners.
  • Develop programs to monitor emerging competitors and trends in the Trading Card Games and Collectibles categories, reporting their implications for the business.
  • Leverage and help grow AIM’s eco-system of insights vendors, tools and data-sources that allow the team to gracefully scale skills and capacity.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • 10+ years in consumer insights or market research roles.
  • Practical experience with games, collectibles, or entertainment categories. Strong familiarity with Magic: The Gathering is preferred.
  • Deep expertise in quantitative and qualitative consumer insights methods, including segmentation and creative asset testing.
  • Best-in-class ability to tell compelling stories with data and insights with a level of polish that can translate to GM-level presentations.
  • Strong problem diagnosis and definition skills.
  • Excellent prioritization and project oversight capabilities.
  • High-level analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools and navigating Power BI dashboards.
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience required, preferably in social sciences, marketing/market research, or a related subject area. MBA or other relevant education a plus.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation range for this role $106,300 - $197,470. The range listed is just one component of Wizards of the Coast’s total compensation package for employees. Employees may also be eligible for annual and long-term incentives.
