The International Initiatives Department is seeking Study Abroad Advisor to join the already awesome team taking the International Initiatives Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO 

 The Study Abroad Programs unit invites applications for the position of Study Abroad Advisor. The Study Abroad Advisor will provide advising, outreach, and administrative support for Georgia State University Study Abroad Programs. The Advisor will work closely with students at all phases of the study abroad process, including outreach, advising, orientation, and administrative application management. In this role, the Advisor will become an expert on a portfolio of faculty-led and affiliated programs. The advisor will work with our application software, Terra Dotta, and coordinate outreach events promoting study abroad across campus and liaise with various units across campus.

The mission of Study Abroad Programs is to enable diverse students to participate in safe, inclusive, high-quality, international academic experiences that contribute to their success as students and global citizens. Equally important, SAP supports faculty as they create and lead programs and serves as a resource to the university community on international education.

Study Abroad Programs is a unit of the International Initiatives. Other major units of International Initiatives include International Partnerships and Agreements, Special Programs for Global Engagement, Virtual Exchange, and Global Scholar Distinction program. GSU is nationally recognized as a leader in international education, having won the 2022 IIE Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education and the 2023 Senator Paul Simon Award for Outstanding Campus Internationalization.

Georgia State University, founded in 1913, has a mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, this major research university has an enrollment of more than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students. GSU also incorporates Perimeter College, a two-year college serving students across five Atlanta-area campuses.

Position Responsibilities Include:

• Advise students in-person and virtually on a portfolio of study abroad opportunities and study abroad scholarships.

• Advise students, faculty, and staff on Georgia State administrative policies and procedures as related to study abroad.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for students participating in study abroad programs in their portfolio including student advising, marketing, communication, application management.

• Coordinate with academic units to identify recommended study abroad programs based on major/department.

• Coordinate outreach events including the annual Study Abroad Fair, information sessions, and pre-departure orientation sessions.

• Present on study abroad to prospective study abroad participants at a variety of campus events and activities and collaborate with study abroad team to support strategic outreach.

• Provide re-entry support for returning study abroad participants.

• Support several Study Abroad Programs special team projects, programming, and events, as assigned. These projects may include coordinating events, facilitating marketing and communication, supporting scholarship administration, organizing offices and academic departments, or other projects as assigned.

• Hire, train, and/or supervise student peer advisors, student assistants, and/or graduate research assistants as needed.

• Participate in on-going professional development.

• Participate in Office of International Initiatives meetings and initiatives.

• Work on special projects, as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Participation in a study abroad program; Experience working in a study abroad office; Experience with Terra Dotta; Experience working with diverse students, faculty, and staff; Experience handling multiple, ongoing projects and activities in a fast-paced environment; Demonstrated interest in student engagement and international education; Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA
