Job Description - VP Corporate Strategy

What you do:

The Vice President (VP) Corporate Strategy reports directly to the Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer (CMSO). This role is accountable for leading the strategy function for the organization which includes development, alignment, and implementation of our short and long-term strategy as well as continuous refresh activities through recurring monitoring of the marketplace. This is a critical role in the enterprise Strategy and Planning Dialogues and will collaborate closely with the executive and senior leadership teams to develop and represent Allianz Life's (AZL) short and long-term growth strategy with AZL's Board, Group, and other global stakeholders.

Key to the success of this role, you will partner with business-line leadership across the organization, bringing together insights from the market, the field, industry trends and business growth priorities to form a comprehensive and holistic strategy for the organization. Communicating effectively across multiple audiences and forums the VP Corporate Strategy will promote AZL's strategic direction and influence operational planning to achieve target outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Organizational Strategy Leadership:

  • Set the direction and own the strategy function and methodology for the enterprise, leading to a comprehensive strategy and shared strategic vision across all areas of the business
  • Lead development, alignment and implementation of AZL's short and long-term strategic plans by partnering with key leaders across AZL, providing insight to market and industry trends, influencing and gaining buy-in from Board and Executive team members to front-line employees
  • Set-up processes and standards surrounding Market Intelligence to feed insights into strategy formulation and action development
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships serving as a trusted partner and advisor to AZL's leadership team, peers and colleagues across the enterprise
  • Proactively identify and bring forward risks and challenges with the appropriate stakeholders while partnering with business leaders to develop solutions and mitigation plans
  • Provide input to the annual planning process including budget and setting OKRs. Represent Strategy on broad company initiatives across AZL and on Group projects

Organizational Strategy Implementation:

  • Lead creation of AZL's transformation agenda, distilling a clear annual roadmap for execution and addressing any misalignment between planned initiatives and organizational strategy
  • Support development and execution of implementation plans to operationalize strategy in support of company growth ambitions while identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to scale and drive synergy across the enterprise
  • Assess, monitor and measure progress and program effectiveness in driving to target outcomes, providing regular updates, surfacing issues and guiding solutioning / trade-off decisions
  • Maintain close connection to key business partners in Product, Distribution, Operations and Marketing and other functional areas

Senior Leadership & Board Support:

  • Provide significant input and support for annual enterprise Strategy and Planning Dialogues working in close partnership with Finance
  • Advise and support executive team on development and representation of AZL's 3-year and long-term growth strategy to the AZL Board, Group and other global stakeholders. Provide input and support development of business / industry insights and analyses for Board and global executive presentations
  • Partner with other OEs and Group to identify and determine areas of global collaboration. Support CEO and serve in an advisory capacity and as dictated by business initiative needs

Team Leadership:

  • Lead an organization of Strategy professionals at all career stages, supporting growth, learning and engagement among the team
  • Create and maintain clear individual and team targets and accountability, aligned to driving business outcomes
  • Drive a culture of connection to the business, emphasizing development of strong cross-functional partnerships, business acumen and expertise in the market and emerging trends

What you bring:

  • 11+ years experience required in corporate strategy, strategic planning or related field
  • Demonstrated success synthesizing complex information and trends into a coherent, cohesive strategy and implementing through strong relationship and influence to drive successful outcomes
  • Financial Services industry experience required
  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Finance or related field
