At COCAS & ME Living, we provide housing, therapy, case management, and recovery programs for individuals and families overcoming domestic violence, substance abuse, incarceration, and homelessness.
As we expand our Medicaid, Medicare, and insurance-billable services, we are seeking a Billing & Coding Specialist to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely billing that sustains our mission.
The Billing & Coding Specialist is responsible for managing the full cycle of medical and program billing, including coding accuracy, claims submission, payment posting, and denial management. This role ensures the organization maximizes reimbursement while staying compliant with regulations.
Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for therapy, medical, housing-related, and case management services.
Submit claims to Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance providers.
Track claims, post payments, and resolve denials or rejections.
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, CMS, and payer-specific requirements.
Work with case managers and therapists to ensure proper documentation for billing.
Generate billing reports for leadership and finance teams.
Assist with audits and maintain accurate billing records.
Proficiency in medical coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).
Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare rules and billing processes.
Experience with EHR/EMR systems and billing software.
Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
Analytical problem-solving for denial management.
Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CCA, or equivalent) preferred.
13 years experience in medical billing & coding.
Experience with nonprofit or behavioral health billing a plus.
Familiarity with Medicaid waiver programs and housing support services is beneficial.
Pay: $18 $27 per hour (based on certification & experience).
Flexible schedule (remote/hybrid options available).

Summary
ME Living / COCAS / King Compassion is seeking an experienced Billing & Revenue Cycle Specialist to be the in-house owner of billing operations and the primary liaison with our billing vendor, BillingParadise. Billing has already gone live, so we need someone who can step in immediately, organize our workflow, and make sure every service we provide is captured and billed correctly.
Key Responsibilities
Own the daily billing workflow from charge capture through payment posting.
Review all encounters for correct CPT/HCPCS codes, modifiers, units, POS, and diagnosis codes before submission.
Prepare and transmit charge files to BillingParadise; respond quickly to any questions from their team.
Work claim rejections and denials; coordinate corrections with clinical staff and resubmit.
Track AR, aging reports, write-offs, and payment trends; escalate issues with payers and with BillingParadise when needed.
Ensure all services billed are supported by documentation and meet medical necessity and payer rules.
Work closely with Intake/Eligibility on insurance verification, authorizations, and paneling/credentialing issues that affect payment.
Help build and maintain our internal billing cheat sheets and SOPs so the whole company follows the same standards.
Required Experience
3+ years medical billing / revenue cycle experience (behavioral health or community mental health strongly preferred).
Hands-on experience with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payers; Georgia Medicaid and CMOs is a big plus.
Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and telehealth billing rules.
Experience working with an external billing company or clearinghouse (Office Ally, Availity, etc.) is preferred.
Comfortable reviewing clinical notes and working with therapists, case managers, and admin staff.
Very strong attention to detail, follow-through, and ability to work independently.
