As a Community Living Direct Support Professional, you will help to enable people to live, work, and enjoy life as independently as possible in their homes and community. You will assist people with daily-life activities, encouraging assertiveness, and supporting decision-making. Direct Support Professional Pay scale: $20.25 per hour

Direct Support Professional Job Type: Full-Time Role; Part-Time Available as well!

Direct Support Professional Shift Type: M-F 9A-3P; OR  Wed/ Thurs 3p-9p and Every Other: Fri (3p-9p), Sat/Sun 8a-9p

Who you will support:

Work with Carolyn

Carolyn is looking for an engaging DSP who is calm, supportive and fun! Known for her frequent one-liners and funny sayings, Carolyn will look to you to be patient and curious to understand what each saying means to her. When Carolyn feels anxious, she will appreciate your calm disposition and support to help her with coping mechanisms. On a day to day, Carolyn is looking for some assistance with daily living activities as well as support when navigating different environments in her wheelchair, or when transferring in and out of the wheelchair. Carolyn enjoys her time at home, chatting or working on various crafts, and will look for you to join her on occasional easy-going outings to places as she chooses.

Work with Tim

Tim is looking for an easygoing DSP to provide a high level of gentle support for activities of daily living, primarily at home. Tim likes to relax by listening to his music and the TV.  And while he's not always interested in engaging with others through conversation, and will work best with someone who will be ready to engage when he wants to, and won't be offended when he does not. As a DSP with Tim, you will administer daily medications, and provide household support by assisting with housework, laundry and cleaning, when not actively engaging with him. If you already have your CMT, you will be a distinguished candidate to potentially work with Tim!

OR

Work with a Home

Although we are primarily looking to fill a 1:1 role with Providence, we may have part-time openings providing general support to 3-4 people within the home together. You would typically be partnering with another Direct Support Professional.  Work with people around maintaining their home space and exploring their community! 

Requirements

A Direct Support Professional

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Has a valid driver's license ; NOT provisional
• Is able/willing to transport people in personal and/or company vehicle
• Has a High school diploma/GED
• Has Computer skills

Your Responsibilities as a Direct Support Professional

• Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Plan (IP), personal plan or an alternative framework or individual teaching plan.
• Assists people supported to meet physical (e.g., health, grooming, toileting, eating) and personal management needs (e.g., human development, home care etc.), by teaching skills, providing supports, and building on individual strengths and capabilities that will lead to increased independence.
• Contribute as a part of a Providence team, building companionship and community, facilitating supports, developing activities that have value to the person.
• Explores vocational interests and aptitudes, assists in preparing for job or school entry, and reviews opportunities for continued career growth.
• Educates people receiving supports, co-workers and community members about issues by providing information and support.
