Direct Support Professional (DSP) Position:
We have several clients (mostly children aged 2-18) who are in need of talented, kind and understanding caregivers who can work with them on a regular basis providing both in-home and community-based support. We are looking for people who are caring, professional and organized, with prior client care or relevant experience. This role involves assisting a client on an individual basis as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. The DSP works alongside the Support Manager here at Family Relief Resources to ensure the client is receiving the person-centered care and attention they need.

Location: Portland 97217
Schedule: Summer Care with potential to stay on with a different schedule after summer.
Monday- Friday 9am-4 pm
Thursdays have an additional shift of 4 pm- 7:30pm
Saturdays 9am-12:30 pm and or 4pm-7:30 pm
Client also has a sibling who needs care during the same time and are approved for 1:2 care.

We are seeking a dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a quiet and shy 15-year-old boy who is on the autism spectrum and occasionally faces behavioral challenges. He enjoys being physically active and is eager to build his socialization skills.
Job Duties:
Provide support to help the client engage in social activities.
Assist with community outings to promote socialization and communication skills.
Support the client in focusing on completing tasks and understanding personal boundaries.
Monitor dietary needs, specifically sensitivities to gluten and sugar.
Foster a positive and encouraging environment to help the client express himself and develop confidence.
Required Skills:
Experience working with children on the autism spectrum or with similar behavioral challenges.
Strong communication skills to facilitate interaction and understanding.
Patience and empathy in responding to the client's needs and challenges.
Ability to implement strategies for task completion and social skills development.
Knowledge of dietary restrictions and the ability to accommodate these needs.
Creative problem-solving skills to adapt to varying situations during outings.
A day in the life of a DSP:
The DSP is an important member of the care team and is responsible for working directly with the client to achieve their desired outcomes and goals. The DSP is also responsible for writing daily notes of what was worked on each day and any progress that was made, and completing quarterly progress reports that are vital to the ongoing development of the client’s yearly care plan (ISP). Each client is different, and their needs are varied, but care generally involves working with the client in their home and/or community, by helping them to achieve various tasks commonly referred to as ADLs or IADLs (washing hands, getting dressed, completing chores, self-managing behaviors/anxieties/emotions, etc.).
