About Boston Prep 

Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school.   In 2025-2026, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 150 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families reside in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. As a charter public school, we welcome all students via an impartial public lottery, and hold the same high expectations and ambitions for all of our students, including those with special needs and English language learners.

As a School Nurse. . .

You are ensuring the Boston Prep community’s health & well-being is our priority. 

We are seeking a temporary full-time school nurse for the dates of August 11, 2025 through January 9, 2026 to cover a leave. There is a possibility of extension of dates.

You would work with our School Nurse Lead in our nursing office.

Hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30 am -4:00 pm which include Wednesday Faculty Meetings 2-4pm. 

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

Nursing:

• Establishing and managing a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing and school health, and Boston Prep’s policies


• Treating students who have been referred to the nurse's office and maintain a daily nursing log of students seen for any medical reason


• Managing student paperwork, including doctor’s notes, physicals, etc.


• Communicating regularly with students, families, and school administrators around health concerns


• Maintain medication supply for students and provide for daily administration of medication


• 
  Maintain contact with prescribing doctors and with parents / guardians to insure correct prescriptions are followed


• 
  Maintain, track, and update all required student medical records


• Maintain and update health administration database


• Support athletics, extracurriculars, and field trips with health planning


• 
  Insure classroom teachers have protective first aid equipment and access to health supplies needed for routine classroom mishaps


• 
  Conducting student health screenings as required by law, including but not limited to, scoliosis, vision, and hearing testing


• Assist with first aid procedures for medical emergencies and serve as a member of the school’s Emergency Response Team


• Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through immunization screenings, and the early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases. 

Building of School Culture

• Frequently communicating the school’s mission to children and families


• Adhering to school academic and disciplinary protocols

Maintenance of Organizational Culture

• Actively engaging in one’s learning; seeking and acting on feedback regularly


• Actively pursuing professional development, inside and outside of the school


• Collaborating with other teachers and administrators to advance the school’s mission

Qualifications include:

• Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts


• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing is require


• Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing, or pediatric nursing


• Pediatric/adolescent health experience


• School nurse experience preferred


• CPR certified
