Job Description - 2026-2027 Afterschool Classroom Lead

Propel seeks passionate individuals committed to providing scholars with exceptional experiences to serve as Afterschool Classroom Leads at all of our schools. All positions are contingent on enrollment and need.


Important Dates



  • First Day of Afterschool: Tuesday, September 8, 2026

  • Last Day Before Winter Break: Thursday, December 17, 2026

  • Programs Resume: Monday, January 11, 2027

  • Last Day of Afterschool: Thursday, May 20, 2027


Program Schedule



  • Monday–Thursday

  • Approximately 3:30–6:00 p.m. (times may vary slightly by school)

  • No program on Fridays, flex days, school holidays, or school closures

Successful staff members:



  • Build positive, respectful relationships with scholars, families, colleagues, and community partners.

  • Actively engage with scholars throughout the entire program by participating in activities, conversations, and learning experiences—not supervising from the sidelines.

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every scholar feels a sense of belonging.

  • Support positive behavior through consistency, encouragement, and relationship building.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude each day.

  • Work collaboratively and willingly step in wherever support is needed to ensure the success of the program.

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with scholars, families, school staff, and fellow team members.

  • Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to contribute to a high-quality afterschool experience.

  • Limit personal cell phone use during program hours and remain fully present and engaged with scholars, except when phones are required for program responsibilities or 

  • emergencies.

  • Model Propel's Habits by demonstrating responsibility, teamwork, kindness, perseverance, and integrity.


 


Classroom Lead


What You'll Do


As a Classroom Lead, you will help create a safe, positive, and engaging environment where scholars look forward to coming every day. This is an active role that requires enthusiasm, creativity, and a commitment to building positive relationships with scholars.


Responsibilities



  • Lead a group of scholars through daily enrichment activities and routines.

  • Facilitate engaging enrichment activities during teacher-led time.

  • Foster a classroom culture where every scholar feels welcomed, respected, and included.

  • Maintain active engagement with scholars at all times by participating in games, conversations, projects, and activities.

  • Support positive behavior by building relationships, setting clear expectations, and using positive reinforcement.

  • Assist with homework support, academic enrichment, and hands-on learning experiences.

  • Supervise transitions, meals, outdoor play, and field trips while maintaining safety.

  • Work collaboratively with the Site Coordinator, Artists, and fellow staff members.

  • Communicate professionally with staff, scholars, and families.

  • Be flexible and willing to assist wherever needed to support the success of the program.

  • Attend required trainings and staff meetings.

  • Attend the end of the year Afterschool Showcase.

Qualifications:



  • S. or M.A.  in Education or a related field or a combination of other trainings and education that qualify the candidate for the position

  • Experience working in Propel Afterschool or Summer Camp

  • Experience working at an afterschool program

  • Experience as a teacher or paraprofessional in a school

  • Experience working in programming for at-risk populations

  • Belief in a culture of dignity for scholars and staff

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance

  • Act 114 FBI Clearance

  • Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance

  • Mandated Reporter Training

  • Act 168 Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure

  • Act 24 Arrest and Conviction Disclosure
