Job Summary:

The NCN Master Teacher role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher who is looking to grow as a leader and as an instructional coach. The Master Teacher provides observation, feedback, and coaching support for the Resident Teacher in their classroom and two Lead Teachers in their grade level.

Additionally, like all NCN teachers, the Master Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom culture where students are joyfully engaged, meaningfully on-task, and feel ownership for their individual and collective success. Teachers help students learn academic, social, and other essential skills that are important to know through life.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Teaching Responsibilities:

  1. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
  2. Plan and execute rigorous, engaging lessons in a logical scope and sequence.
  3. Conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  4. Use student data to assess mastery of objectives and movement toward big goals for student achievement and growth.
  5. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  6. Develop effective classroom management systems that build students' intrinsic motivation to learn, grow, and succeed in academics and character.
  7. Implements feedback and new learning from ongoing professional development in order to better support instructional activities and student achievement.
  8. Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff members, students, parents, administrators, and other stakeholders in order to support students.
  9. Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  10. Participates in staff development training to improve job performance
  11. Participates in coaching, co-planning, and data meetings
  12. Participates in special events, as assigned
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Coaching & Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Mentor grade-level resident teacher
  • Lead weekly planning meetings and weekly data meetings for grade-level teams
  • Provide observation, feedback, and coaching support for grade-level teachers
  • Use school-wide and grade-level learning data to drive decisions, identify academic areas of concern and develop instructional strategies to address them.
  • Team teach, model lessons, and develop and help implement best practices
  • Navigate crucial conversations with other adults, maintaining a student-centered focus.
  • Participates in Academic Advisory Council
  • Attend all required training and development as outlined for the role.
  • Work an additional two weeks over the summer

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid IN Teacher’s License
  • 3+ years of teaching experience
  • Track record of strong academic achievement
  • Has a strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and content
  • Has a passion for the mission and values of Neighborhood Charter Network, enjoys working with staff, and has a genuine love for children
  • Has a dedication to helping children grow and learn
