Title: Dean of Culture

Supervisor: Academy Principal

Department: Instructional Support

Classification: Exempt

I. Accountability Objectives:

This is a full-time, 10-month position to assist in the implementation of the instructional and behavioral management program with students who exhibit a variety of learning and behavioral problems.

II. Position Characteristics:

Length of Contract:  205

III. Position Relationships:

Reports to:   Academy  Principal 

Coordinates with:  Academy  Principal, classroom and resource teachers, parents and families

IV. Position Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree 

V. Position Responsibilities:

  1. Understand the educational philosophy of the school and carry out the policies of the Board of Directors
  2. Lead and manage the student discipline and consequence program
  3. Complete regular proactive and preventative walk-throughs throughout the entire academy
  4. Assist in working with an individual students or group of students in the classroom or in a separate setting removed from the classroom
  5. Determine the readiness of and facilitate a student’s return to his/her regular class
  6. Lead supervision of students in the performance of academic tasks, using materials and methods provided by teachers
  7. Lead and supervise students during arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, and off-campus activities
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of and practice intervention strategies in managing the behavior of students in emotionally stressful and crisis situations 
  9. Restrain highly emotional students 
  10. Collect and maintain behavioral data, i.e. charting, graphing, activity logs, etc
  11. Communicate behavioral interventions with families
  12. Mediate student conflicts as necessary
  13. Lead school culture efforts, including monitoring of attendance, retention, and suspension 
  14. Maintain confidentiality at all times; maintain good attendance and flexibility while working cooperatively with supervisors and other employees
  15. Plan for professional growth through staff development, course work, and/or other opportunities
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and other administrators
