MISSION:


The mission of Marion P. Thomas Charter School is to build culturally rich, transformative educational spaces that cultivate successful, lifelong innovators who use their passions, character, and intellect to better themselves, the greater Newark community, and the world beyond.


 


WHO YOU ARE: 


A reliable, trustworthy Computer Science teacher who is responsible for providing instruction on a wide range of computer science courses, including an introductory survey course, Programming with Python, Web Programming (Javascript, PHP, MySQL), and/or advanced-level computer science courses. To be successful as a Computer Science teacher, you should be resilient, hardworking, and able to work under pressure.


 


Do you have what it takes?



  • Education and Experience:





    • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.







    • A New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in Computer Science




 


THE ROLE:



  • Ensuring all curriculum, school, and state requirements are met.



  • Assessing student needs and providing support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers.



  • Using technology to improve lesson delivery and recordkeeping.



  • Expanding teacher networks and participating in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.



  • Instruct students on facets of Java, Python, C, Scheme, Javascript, PHP, MySQL, and other relevant technologies.



  • Instruct students on how computers work, including the basic science and mathematics behind their operation and the hardware and software built on those foundations.



  • Teach how to write computer programs, algorithms, and programming languages.



  • Keep records of grades, grade papers, and perform other administrative duties as needed.

  • Create projects designed to enhance lectures.

  • Read and stay abreast of current topics in computer science.



  • Create lesson plans.



  • Utilize various curriculum resources.



  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.



  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.



  • Develop incentives to keep participants in class.



  • Develop professional relationships with other agencies and programs.



  • Utilize public library resources.



  • Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.



  • Tutor students on an individual basis.



  • Performs other duties as assigned




  • Salary range: BA $64,570 - $92,200 / MA $65,820 - $93,450



  • Term of Employment: 10.5 Months



  • Union: MPTEA
