The Reading Interventionist provides targeted, structured literacy instruction for students who require additional support in reading development. Using evidence-based practices grounded in the Science of Reading, the interventionist delivers systematic and explicit instruction to accelerate student progress in foundational reading skills and comprehension. The role includes analyzing literacy data, implementing tiered interventions, and collaborating with teachers to strengthen literacy outcomes for all students.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Instruction and Intervention
- Deliver explicit, systematic reading instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
- Provide targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions to students identified through literacy screening and assessment data.
- Teach and reinforce the essential components of reading, including:
- Phonemic awareness
- Phonics and decoding
- Fluency
- Vocabulary
- Language comprehension
- Use research-based instructional routines that include modeling, guided practice, and immediate feedback.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the specific needs of struggling readers.
Assessment and Data Analysis
- Administer universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
- Analyze literacy data to identify skill gaps and plan targeted interventions.
- Monitor student progress frequently and adjust instruction based on data.
- Maintain accurate documentation of interventions, progress monitoring, and student outcomes.
MTSS/RTI Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers within the MTSS/RTI framework to support struggling readers.
- Participate in problem-solving meetings and intervention planning.
- Support teachers in implementing evidence-based literacy strategies in the classroom.
Instructional Support
- Model effective literacy instruction and structured literacy strategies when appropriate.
- Support the alignment of classroom instruction with intervention practices to ensure coherence for students.
Family Communication
- Communicate student progress and provide families with strategies to support reading development at home when appropriate.
Professional Responsibilities
- Stay current on research and best practices related to the Science of Reading and structured literacy.
- Participate in professional learning focused on literacy instruction and intervention.
- Contribute to school-wide literacy improvement efforts.
Qualifications & Traits
The ideal Reading Interventionist will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, or related field
- Valid teaching certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Reading/Literacy or related field
- Reading Specialist endorsement or certification
- Training in structured literacy approaches (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, or similar)
- Experience providing reading interventions in an MTSS or RTI framework
