Job Description - 2nd Shift Packing Supervisor

Personnel



  • Ensure safe working environment for all team members in the department. Epitomize the NELG safety mission!

  • Coach and mentor junior leaders (leads and potential leaders) to develop their team leadership skills.

  • Provide guidance for day-to-day operations to team members as well as delegating specific tasks.

  • Directly handle personnel issues as they arise; coordinate with the shift supervisor and department manager.

  • Give positive recognition and corrective actions to team members when needed.

  • Provide and support HR and Safety with beneficial information, paperwork, etc.



    Production



    • Evaluate production processes to determine where improvements can be made. Works with department manager to develop and implement ideas.

    • Communicate new product and customer specifications to Team Members.

    • Monitor the Truck Schedule to ensure team members in the department stay on task to send all customer orders on time and complete.

    • Work with the team members to ensure they have the tools/resources needed to complete their orders each day. These resources can be, but are not limited to tools, materials and maintenance support.

    • Coordinate with production Team Members, Shift Supervisor, and QC to solve problems that cause rejects and work to raise the first-time yields (FTY) of materials produced to ensure output increases and materials and time are not wasted.

    • Conduct daily shift start huddles to discuss safety, quality, efficiency and production.

    • Maneuver glass racks into and out of the autoclave using the tugger. Also operates the autoclave and tags the staging racks accordingly.

    • Coordinates daily schedule of production tasks to move laminated glass and from the autoclave to inspection and packing in preparation of shipping finished product.

    • Perform autoclave start-up, monitoring and shut-down activities. Provide updates and/or reports of productivity to department supervisor as needed.

    • Must know all aspects of each section within the department. This includes; Autoclave, Bagging, Inspection, LPC,  Buffing, Box Building, Closing


    Additional Responsibilities



    • 90% of scheduled shift time spent on the production floor, 10% of scheduled shift time spent on administrative duties. This varies based on day to day operations.

    • Accept more challenging assignments as experience and knowledge allows.

    • Train others to help them gain knowledge in your strength areas as needed.


    Minimum Qualifications:



    • Requires regular, in-person attendance at the facility.

    • Able to work as part of a team including but not limited to members of management, employees throughout Cardinal and vendor partnerships.

    • Able to exercise good judgement in decision making, ideas, and all aspects relating to the NELG team, Cardinal Glass Industries, and other company relationships.

    • Able to maintain a professional appearance and conduct, exhibiting a respectful and courteous demeanor at all times. Live the NELG values!



    • Previous supervisory management experience.

    • Strong communication and public speaking skills.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

    • Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.

    • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but still able to recognize and support the organization’s mission.

    • Self-directed/self-managed.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.



    • Strong communication skills.


    Physical Elements:



    • Constant standing and walking

    • Frequent bending and reaching

    • Frequent lifting, carrying and/or pushing objects weighing 25 pounds or more

    • Frequent kneeling and balancing

    • Occasional climbing and kneeling

    • Oral and written communication

    • Ability to see within normal parameters and hear within normal range


    Environmental Conditions:  This position exists in an indoor manufacturing facility.  The work environment is a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noises and to fumes, odors and dusts.
