Summary
The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor is a key manufacturing role responsible for overseeing limited, low-volume production runs on 2nd shift within an aerospace machining environment. This role directly supervises shift personnel, performs first article inspections, assists with machine set-ups, and runs production equipment as needed. The Supervisor is expected to work through open-ended tasks and problems independently, keeping the shift productive and on schedule while maintaining aerospace quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Supervise, coach, and coordinate 2nd shift production personnel to safely meet daily production and quality goals.
· Oversee limited, low-volume production runs, prioritizing jobs and coverage across machines and operators.
· Complete first article inspections to verify parts conform to prints and specifications before full production release.
· Assist operators with machine set-ups and changeovers to minimize downtime between jobs.
· Operate CNC machines directly as needed to cover open positions, support training, or keep production on schedule.
· Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve open-ended production problems, driving issues to root cause and implementing corrective action.
· Make sound, independent decisions on the floor when engineering, quality, or leadership support is not immediately available.
· Monitor quality throughout the shift and ensure nonconforming material is identified, segregated, and documented.
· Communicate shift status, open issues, and hand-off information clearly to the incoming shift and Plant Manager.
· Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and aerospace quality requirements (e.g., AS9100).
· Track attendance, overtime, and shift staffing, escalating gaps that could affect production commitments.
· Support continuous improvement efforts, including 5S, waste reduction, and process improvement initiatives.
