Description

We have TWO openings for night shift Cutting Inspector/Grader for the Main Plant.   

Summary 

Stands beside moving conveyor belt and visually and manually inspects raw materials. Grades out unacceptable product and foreign objects. 

**In the case of Worker’s Compensation Accommodations this position can be provided with a stool for periodic use to help with standing restrictions, etc.**

Duties and Responsibilities 

Essential Functions

Stands beside a moving conveyor belt and rakes raw materials with hand so each item can be seen. Visually and manually inspects raw materials as follows:

1. for cut product - grades out chips with holes, brown spots or poor cut.

2. for salad cubes or relish - grades out soft or bad pickles and trash. If green relish, grades out red pepper.

3. for whole pickles and peppers - grades out soft or bad product, trash and incorrect sizes.

Removes foreign objects from all products being inspected.

Follows safety rules and company policies.

Other duties  .

Monitors and adjusts controls for machinery which cleans and cuts raw materials into relish, salad cubes, chips, stuffers, and strips and which pricks whole pickles if filling in for the Machine Attendant on occasion 

Uses knife to cut onions (occasional duty).

Lifts and carries up to twenty lbs. pans of pickles and peppers on occasion. **For WC accommodation pans do not have to be filled completely with pickles and pepper so total weight can be adjusted as needed.

Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.

Receives written instructions from packing schedule or verbal instructions from supervisor on above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

No special educational requirements.  Ability to speak,  read and write in English a plus. Job requires good eye/hand coordination.

Knife (occasional).

Physical Demands

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm in handling.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Light work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is related for light work.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Work Environment

Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and frequent wetting from some job tasks. Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise. Some contact with brine, chlorine, oil and capsaicin from hot pepper. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves and aprons required. Air mask may be used at times.
