We have ONE Day Shift Syrup Maker Lead

Summary

Under the direction of the Capping and Pasteurizing Department Supervisor, assists in overseeing general operations of syrup making and ancillary functions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Assists Supervisor in overseeing syrup making and ancillary functions.

Assures syrup makers have correct formulas. Assures all syrup makers are using the correct storage tank, mixing tank, and briner and all of these are sanitized per Standard Operating Procedures. Makes sure each batch of syrups and brines made are within specifications so finished jars will meet HACCP and Quality Critical limits. Assures that the correct formula goes in the proper bottle.

Pulls necessary ingredients and spices for all of syrup room and relish line.

Performs Syrup Maker job as needed. Covers any syrup maker’s position during absence.

Cleans and maintains ronningen petter filters.

Records inventory of ingredients and supplies in the on-site syrup rooms as requested by Material Purchaser and Accounting at the end of each month. Assists in the end of the year inventory.

Helps clean and maintains spice storage area and syrup room, this is including when returning ingredients back to the spice storage area. It is this individual’s responsibility to make certain all containers are clean, sealed, and labeled. 

Monitors production run to assure enough cover formula is made up and as little as possible left over at the end of the shift.

Supplies Quality Control with completed lot number record sheets and completed check-off sheets at the end of each shift. Maintains a copy of all of these sheets for 5 years per SQF qualifications.

Responsible for assuring that there are no leaks in any hoses, pumps, and tanks.

Trains new Syrup Makers in safe working practices and safety attitudes.

Assumes some duties of Supervisor in his/her absence.

Assists Maintenance personnel in all DIN calls for pumps, valves, etc.

Only employees who have completed syrup maker training can cover in the syrup makers’ absence to assure finished jars will meet HACCP and Quality Critical standards. 

Helps prepare maintenance work requests, absentee reports, accident reports, etc. Performs certain clerical duties as assigned by supervisor. Uses personal computer in some of these job tasks.

Keeps own work area clean and neat.

Follows safety rules and company policies.

Other Duties

Assists raw materials department with the unloading of bulk loads of ingredients when necessary. This includes rail cars and tractor trailer loads. 

Assists with the filling of propane gas tanks when necessary, per training requirements.

Work in other areas as assigned by the supervisor.

Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.

Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school graduate plus additional training needed. Ability to read, write and speak in English required; conversational Spanish a plus. Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions needed for job tasks. Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills required. Compency on personal computer and standard business software required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Is not a supervisor, but has certain responsibilities for leading others in the department.

Machines, Equipment, Tools Used

Mixing tank, pumps, switches, valves, hoses, filter, briner, measuring equipment (including 16 and 32 oz. cylinders, measuring pitcher, scales, thermometer), screw driver, channel lock, Steel Toed Shoes.

Physical Demands

Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the line, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerate degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a high position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and\or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform and activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures: transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices, and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Work Environment

Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations, odors/fumes from some ingredients and intermittent wetting from some job tasks. Earplugs required because of irritating machinery noise. Some contact with grease and yellow food coloring. Head cover and beard cover required. Gloves, goggles and apron required at times.
