REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SALARY: $39,000–$67,000 (depending on education and experience)
WORK SCHEDULE: 8 hours/day during the school year; 190 days (calendar available upon request)
PURPOSE
Muddy Creek Charter School seeks a dynamic and reflective upper elementary educator to lead a blended 5th/6th grade classroom. This teacher will design and facilitate a rich, place-based and project-based learning environment that meets the diverse academic and developmental needs of students across two grade levels.
At Muddy Creek, learning stretches beyond four walls. The successful candidate will engage students through inquiry, community connection, environmental exploration, and hands-on experiences. This educator will skillfully balance academic rigor with creativity, supporting students as they grow into thoughtful learners, collaborators, and stewards of their community.
The ideal candidate brings both structure and wonder to the classroom—able to differentiate instruction, foster independence, and nurture a strong classroom community where students learn through both work and play.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045).

Curriculum Development and Planning
- Design and implement integrated, multi-age curriculum aligned to 5th and 6th grade standards
- Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of academic levels, learning styles, and developmental stages
- Collaborate with teaching team members to align curriculum with the school’s mission, vision, and goals
- Participate in curriculum planning sessions and ongoing professional development
- Continuously seek out and integrate new instructional resources and strategies
Instructional Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality instruction in core content areas using project-based and inquiry-driven approaches
- Create learning experiences that intentionally bridge 5th and 6th grade standards while allowing for flexible grouping
- Utilize outdoor spaces and the local environment as an extension of the classroom
- Incorporate experiential learning, scientific exploration, and arts integration
- Use instructional technology to enhance learning where appropriate
- Ensure instruction is culturally responsive and neurodiversity-affirming
- Collaborate with Special Education, 504, and RTI teams to implement accommodations, modifications, and interventions
- Monitor and adjust instruction based on student data and progress
Classroom Environment and Management
- Build a structured, inclusive, and engaging multi-age classroom community
- Co-create classroom norms, routines, and expectations with students
- Support students in developing independence, responsibility, and collaboration skills
- Use strong organizational and classroom management systems to support varied learners
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
Responsibilities to the School Community
- Support and uphold the mission, charter, and policies of Muddy Creek Charter School
- Participate in school events and community activities
- Share in collective responsibilities such as supervision and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain consistent, positive communication with families
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and student support meetings
- Contribute to a collaborative and reflective staff culture
Student Assessment and Support
- Assess student learning using a variety of formal and informal methods
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress clearly
- Participate in the IEP process, including referrals, meetings, and implementation
- Use assessment data to guide instruction and support student growth
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Oregon Elementary Teaching License
- Experience or strong interest in multi-age or blended classroom instruction
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and project-based learning
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-centered education
- First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within two months of hire)
- Physical and mental stamina to support active, engaged learners
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Regular standing, walking (including uneven terrain), and active supervision
- Frequent use of hands, reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching
- Ability to respond quickly to student safety needs
- Work occurs both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
- Noise level ranges from moderate to high
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Position is for the 2026–2027 school year
- All employees are hired on an annual basis
