Job Description - AC Refrigeration Mechanic - Lead

The Facilities & Maintenance team are a robust and energetic team that work well together and is cohesive. We are tasked to perform all types of facility work and ensure that they are completed in a timely manner. The work that we do and the environments we may encounter can be challenging at times but ensure we always stay safe. We have good working relationships with each other and with other departments and support each other every day.



Who we are looking for:


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead HVAC Technician to manage and maintain critical HVAC systems within our facilities. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of climate control systems to ensure uninterrupted performance and environmental stability. The Lead HVAC Technician will supervise a team of technicians, coordinate maintenance schedules, and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. System Maintenance & Operations:



  • Oversee and conduct the installation, maintenance, and repair of all HVAC systems, including CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and air handling units.

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to maintain optimal system performance and energy efficiency.

  • Monitor and respond to environmental control alarms to ensure continuous data center operation.


 Leadership & Team Management:



  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of HVAC technicians, ensuring quality work and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Coordinate daily work schedules, assignments, and emergency response procedures.

  • Collaborate with other facilities and teams to support integrated operations.


 Compliance & Safety:



  • Ensure all HVAC systems comply with industry standards (ASHRAE), local codes, and environmental regulations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, system performance logs, and compliance records.

  • Enforce safety standards and best practices across all HVAC-related activities.


Technical Expertise & Troubleshooting:



  • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC system issues efficiently to minimize downtime.

  • Implement system upgrades and retrofits to improve efficiency and reliability.

  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, optimize systems, and recommend improvements.



Candidates must show: 



  • Ability to promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners

  • Technical skills – Working knowledge of computer systems/software and computerized billing

  • Oral presentation skills – Comfortable with delivering briefings and reports to colleagues, conduct training sessions, and any other tasks related to speaking in front of an audience

  • Strong organization skills with an ability to prioritize and plan work activities, uses time efficiently, organizes or schedules other people and their tasks, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment; must be detail-oriented and accurate in work

  • Attendance/Punctuality – Consistently at work and on time for scheduled shift and department or customer scheduled meetings; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.

  • Decision-making – Makes sound, well-informed, fact-based decisions and seeks guidance when needed.




Here’s what you need to have:



  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial HVAC, with at least 1 years in a supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of critical environmental systems, including CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems, and BMS (Building Management Systems).

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required.

  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment with on-call availability.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to get security clearances for Navy and AAFB access.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to climb ladders 15ft+

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.

  • Capable of working in high-noise, temperature-controlled environments.


Preferred but not required:



  • Technical degree or HVAC certification preferred.

  • Experience with industry-leading BMS platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Siemens).

  • Knowledge of ASHRAE thermal guidelines.

  • Familiarity with electrical systems and backup power integration.

  • Project management experience and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
