Job Description - Academic Advisor


MUST DO

  • Plan and promote a comprehensive guidance program to enhance student academics, career planning, and personal and social skills that contribute to their development into mature, able, and responsible Christ-followers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish a rapport with students and develop a positive and effective relationship with parents and school staff.
  • Collaborate with LCS Administration to plan, develop, and initiate an effective developmental guidance program that supports the curriculum and goals.
  • Work with school staff, parents, and COTM resources in coordinating counseling services.
  • Plan and lead classroom guidance to assist students, individually and collectively, for academic success, problem-solving, study skills, effective communication, emotional health, and career awareness.
  • Monitor credits of senior students and underclassmen, providing information and assisting students with scholarships, financial aid, and the college admissions process, writing letters of recommendation as necessary.
  • Identify and help with the proper placement of students.
  • Responsible for student enrollment, schedule changes, and cumulative student records, ensuring accurate and complete records as required by law, LCS policy, accreditation, and administrative regulations.
  • Coordinate and participate in conferences with students, parents, and staff as needed.
  • Communicate with students, staff, and parents regarding available counseling services as needed.
  • Coordinate referrals to outside agencies for students with special needs and/or at-risk as appropriate with parents and administration.
  • Performs teaching, co-curricular, and extracurricular duties, as assigned by the Head of School and Principal as needed.
  • Assist students, staff, and parents in interpreting student data, following all district and state assessment procedures and requirements.
  • Coordinate enrollment, grades, and attendance of career-tech students.
  • Coordinate college night activities, awards assemblies, and scholarship recognition at annual graduations.
  • Notify parents/guardians of student credit deficiencies and provide information about recovery programs.
  • Attends and participates in professional development activities and serves on committees as required.
  • Coordinate the distribution, administration, and inventory of testing following Accreditation and school regulations as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal/Head of School.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Counseling preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment.
  • Respond rapidly and appropriately to parents, students, and staff.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Proficient in promoting, listening, creative vision casting, and excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and motivate others.
  • Light exposure to outside conditions during outside duty.
  • Required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 40 hours per week
  • 10-month contract with 10 flex workdays
  • Off during school breaks
