Job Summary:
Coordinate academic advising services for middle school and high school students. Monitor student progress towards degree completion and enrollment into a post-secondary institution by evaluating needs assessments, communicating with parents and school personnel and developing individual education plans.
Essential Functions:
45% Monitor student progress in the Program while communicating with students, parents, teachers and counselors.
25% Maintain Individual Education Plans and update needs assessments through the use of surveys, standardized tests and school visits. Monitor the progression of students enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum.
15% Coordinate monthly career workshops and parental programs in addition to instructing summer courses in personal development. Develop and oversee additional workshops for students as needed.
10% Collaborate with the Akron Public School personnel for the purpose of developing and coordinating student activities. Attend workshops and conferences to facilitate professional development.
5% Provide assistance with the selection of students to participate in departmental programs.
Education:
Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree.
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:
Valid Driver's License - State of Ohio
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience planning workshops and counseling students and parents. Basic computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet capabilities required. Ability to write professional letters and correspondence required. Problems solving skills and time management skills required.
Leadership:
No authority or responsibility for the supervision of others.
Physical Requirements:
Job is physically comfortable; individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking, standing, etc. May occasionally lift very lightweight objects.
Working Conditions:
No major sources of working conditions discomfort, standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise, crowded working conditions, minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems, and/or up to 40% use of PC terminal.
