Account Executive

Founded in 1955 by a small group that included Norman Mailer, The Village Voice was the nation's first alternative newsweekly. Over the years it has been a home to a wide range of writers and artists, from E.E. Cummings and Katherine Anne Porter to Ezra Pound, James Baldwin, photographer Sylvia Plachy, cartoonist Lynda Barry, investigative journalists Wayne Barrett and Tom Robbins, music writer Robert Christgau, and film writer J. Hoberman, among many others. The Voice, which has won three Pulitzers, has always been an aggressive interrogator of the powers that be, as well as a force for finding and promoting cutting edge arts and culture. We believe that both of those functions may be more important now than they have ever been.

Under new ownership and editorial leadership in 2016, The Village Voice is rededicating itself to being an indispensable resource for progressive New Yorkers of all sorts.  This year, the Voice will be unveiling an updated design for the paper, new world-class writing and editing talent, and a state of the art digital platform. Our current portfolio of products includes the print paper (100,000 circulation and growing), a robust website, independently produced lifestyle events, plus many specialty inserts focused on arts, food, fashion, culture, music, and more. We consider that to be just the beginning for this global brand.    

We are looking for an ambitious & experienced Account Executive. The ideal candidate is a hard-working, competitive individual with 2+ years selling experience. Preferred candidates will have local media sales experience in NYC with contacts and proven relationships with local retailers, clubs, restaurants, brands & ad agencies.

This role is heavily defined by creating and achieving new sales growth & finding new business opportunities in a wide variety of products including print, digital, SEO and event sponsorships. 

• Bachelor’s Degree with 2-3 years of direct sales experience in NYC
• Strong ability to juggle new and existing accounts and tackle new projects in fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with selling digital advertising solutions to SMB’s including display banner, rich media, email and mobile
• Trendsetter with emerging mobile technology
• Outstanding communication, organization and writing skills
• Passion for NYC and willingness to work hard and lead by example
