Description

The Account Specialist plays a crucial role in the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. This position involves performing administrative and accounting tasks to support operations. The specialist will handle accounts payable and receivable, manage financial records, and assist in various administrative duties. They will work closely with other departments and personnel to ensure the smooth and efficient management of the finances, contributing to the overall effective operation of the Sheriff's Office.



Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including cash bonds, travel expenses, and fees collected.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring timely payments and accurate record-keeping.
  • Assist in the training of new personnel on financial procedures and policies.
  • Review and audit financial records to ensure compliance with guidelines and identify any discrepancies.
  • Provide support for emergency response activities, as required, by managing financial aspects of emergency operations.
  • Prepare and submit requisitions for goods and services, ensuring compliance with procurement procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of Sheriff's Office Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines, and apply them in daily tasks.
  • Participate in recruitment and community relations activities, representing the Sheriff's Office.
  • Provide courtroom testimony as needed, presenting financial records and data accurately.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring flexibility and adaptability.


Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED is required, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in accounting or administrative roles.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, including accounts payable and receivable management.
  • Proficiency in using office equipment and software, including MUNIS or similar accounting systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with colleagues, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting is essential.
  • Knowledge of applicable state statutes and regulations related to financial management in law enforcement.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs dictate.
  • Physical ability to meet the job's demands, including lifting and carrying weights up to 40 pounds.
