Hastings Insurance is seeking an Accountant to join our Accounting team. In this role, you'll help maintain the financial integrity of our organization through financial reporting, account analysis, reconciliations, regulatory filings, and general ledger activities. Working collaboratively across the company, you'll provide accurate financial information, support key business decisions, and contribute to projects that strengthen our financial operations.
Location & Schedule:
This is a full-time, salaried position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This role is primarily remote; however, regular in-office collaboration is expected, including approximately one day per month at our Hastings headquarters, along with additional onsite visits during month-end, quarter-end, year-end, or other business-critical activities.
Candidates should reside within a reasonable driving distance of Hastings, Michigan.
What You'll Do:
Prepare, review, and analyze financial data while ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines.
Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger.
Perform account reconciliations and investigate financial variances.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting activities.
Prepare regulatory and financial reports for governmental agencies and industry organizations.
Support cash management activities and related financial transactions.
Participate in internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation and responding to information requests.
Collaborate with business partners across the organization to gather, verify, and analyze financial information.
Contribute to accounting and company-wide initiatives, including planning, forecasting, and financial analysis projects.
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Identify and communicate unusual financial activity, account variances, and internal control concerns.
Provide financial guidance and support to internal business partners as needed.
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Professional accounting experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, financial analysis, or general ledger accounting.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting established deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
Statutory insurance accounting experience is a plus, but not required.
