The Senior Regulatory Accountant is responsible for the preparation and timely filing of statements, reports, and other information as required by the various jurisdictions in which the company is licensed to write insurance. This position will maintain statutory filing checklists, retain all documents in adherence with departmental retention requirements, and monitor changes to filing requirements in all jurisdictions. This position will articulate and / or verify assessments, fees, and other charges, preparing payment requests as applicable. This position is responsible for insurance entities within the the company.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain regulatory / statutory filing checklists.
  • Prepare and coordinate all required filings for states, regulatory jurisdiction, and financial data calls where the company licensed.
  • Prepare accurate and timely information for A.M. Best Company specific filings such as galleys and the SRQ. This involves scheduling the timely receipt of data required from appropriate departments to complete these reports which are critical to company rating.
  • Initiate and verify the payment of all required regulatory fees, license fees, and assessments. Reconcile ledger accounts related to Guarantee Funds, Assessments, Surcharges on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor regulations for any changes in state and regulatory filing requirements.
  • Research state and regulatory filing requirements for newly licensed states. Disseminate this information to others as applicable.
  • Research and resolve regulatory filing inquiries, issues, and discrepancies from various states and regulatory agencies. Take corrective action to prevent future issues.
  • Maintain documents and proof of filing to show compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, and supplemental exhibits and schedules to be filed where needed.
  • Serves as liaison between finance, other departments, and regulators.
  • Own filing systems such as Wings and Gain
  • Gather information for and assist with internal and external auditors, consultants, and State examiners as necessary in conjunction with required state audits, Model Audit Rules compliance.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Education, Experience, Competencies & Values

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with concentration in Accounting.
  • 6+ years related accounting and reporting experience in the property & casualty insurance industry.
  • Professional finance and accounting designations are a plus.
  • Experienced with general ledger and other accounting information systems. Workday and BlackLine experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge and proficient with other Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of statutory guidance furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with various insurance and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to interpret and form conclusions on state statutes and laws, and develop appropriate, accurate and concise responses to inquiries from the same authorities.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, business writing, verbal & interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and consistency in both preparing and reviewing work.
  • Ability to actively participate in team development and team-oriented processes and motivate others to do the same.
  • Positive and professional demeanor. Ability to work courteously and enthusiastically with various internal and external parties.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work in a fast paced, forward moving environment.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
