The Accountant I support the financial operations of the Health Center in compliance with the HRSA Health Center Program, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position is responsible for routine accounting functions including daily cash reconciliation, bank and grant reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, payroll support, journal entries, and audit preparation. The Accountant I play a key role in maintaining financial integrity, internal controls, and audit readiness.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Operations & Internal Controls
Perform daily cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy of patient payments, deposits, and general ledger posting
Complete monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies timely
Prepare and log journal vouchers/journal entries in accordance with GAAP and Health Center policies
Grant & Compliance Support
Assist with grant reconciliation to ensure expenses align with approved HRSA Notices of Award (NOA)
Support tracking of grant expenditures in compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
Maintain documentation to support allowability, allocability, and reasonableness of costs
Fixed Assets
Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records, including recording assets and disposals.
Ensure compliance with federal asset tracking and record retention requirements
Payroll & Documentation
Payroll processing, reconciliations, and related financial reports
Scan, index, and maintain financial and payroll records in accordance with HRSA record retention requirements
Audit, OSV & Reporting Support
Assist with preparation for annual audits, Operational Site Visits (OSV), and other compliance reviews
Additional Duties
Attend PCMH in-house training
Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned to support Health Center operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree (2-year degree) in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field required (Experience in bookkeeping/accounting can be used in place of education.)
Prior accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience preferred
Experience in a healthcare, nonprofit, or grant-funded organization preferred but not required
Strong mathematical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
Ability to organize online computer files and have strong computer skills
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (simple formulas, sorting, filtering, basic spreadsheets)
Ability to follow established accounting procedures and internal controls
Understanding of confidentiality requirements related to payroll and financial data
Ability to meet recurring deadlines in a regulated environment
Willingness to learn HRSA Health Center Program requirements and grant compliance standards
