Accountant II

Founded in 1920, Akerman is recognized as one of the nation’s premier law firms, with more than 700 lawyers across the United States.  

Akerman is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to join its Financial Services Department.  This position will play a critical role in maintaining the firm’s financial records and supporting key account and reporting functions.  This position works closely with the Finance team on general ledge accounting, lease accounting, reporting and financial analysis.  The firm has adopted a hybrid schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support month-end and year-end close processes


• Prepare and maintain the firm’s monthly office lease rent roll


• Identify and record necessary journal entries


• Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts


• Analyze financial results and investigate variances, trends, and unusual activity


• Prepare tax schedules and financial reports


• Assist in the annual audit


• Review and release trust wire transactions in accordance with firm policies and controls


• Participate in special projects and Finance Department initiatives as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting


• Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience


• Strong knowledge of account reconciliations and financial reporting


• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis


• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills


• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting critical deadlines


• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy


• Experience with 3E, Sage Fixed Assets and Emburse is a plus 


• Experience working in a law firm preferred
