Accountant II
to join our team where dedication to excellence is paramount. The chosen candidate will perform a wide range of professional duties requiring meticulous attention to detail. These responsibilities include financial accounting and reporting, facilitating budget development, reviewing and authorizing purchases, conducting general ledger reconciliations, executing adjusting journal entries, and auditing the parts inventory system. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor's Degree
in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Business Management, or a closely related field plus
three (3) years
of professional level experience in budgeting, accounting, of financial management;
OR , an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed may be considered. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check which will include a personal credit check.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Arizona driver's license.

Prepares both internal and external budget monitoring reports on a monthly and quarterly basis; provide analysis for expenditure and revenue trends as needed. Performs fare revenue accounting and reconciliation timely and with accuracy; reconciliation of daily bankcard transactions; produce monthly fare revenue reconciliations for services operated by Valley Metro; support fare collection system testing. Conducts daily review and approval of purchase requisitions and vendor invoices. Assists the Budget Supervisor and Management in the preparation and development of annual agency budgets and five-year forecasts; prepare and collect budget forms; provide analysis of input received; supports development of annual intergovernmental agreements with member cities. Prepares accurate journal entries to record financial activity monthly; analyzes and reconciles operations accounts to support monthly financial reporting. Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors/inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. Performs monthly reporting into the National Transit Database; coordinates with other agency staff submitting or entering data into the NTD database; ensures all follow up issues and questions from the NTD analyst are resolved; provides support to other agency personnel involved in the collection and reporting of annual NTD required elements.
Occasionally performs audit work of light rail and streetcar parts inventory in an operations environment; uses system-generated inventory reports to reconcile with financial system and prepare year-end journal entries. Performs a variety of activities in support of departmental operations, including reviewing and updating desk procedures; assisting auditors during audits by obtaining documentation and responding to inquiries; and responding to financial inquiries from internal and external customers. Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
Knowledge of: Financial, statistical, and comparative analysis principles, techniques, and formulas Financial controls and monitoring Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Principles and practices of budget development and financial forecasting Principles and practices of procurement Applications related to enterprise resources planning and enterprise asset management (Sage Oracle and Trapeze software desirable) Principles and practices of financial record keeping and reporting National Transit Data (NTD) reporting and related Federal, State, and local laws and regulations
Skill in: Inputting and retrieving financial information from a computerized accounting system Using computers and related software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) Prioritizing, organizing, and managing multiple simultaneous projects Assisting in the development and monitoring of budgets Performing accurate financial calculations Conducting research Monitoring compliance with applicable governmental regulations Maintaining detailed and accurate records Communication with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public at a level sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
