Accountant/Auditor

The Diocese of Jefferson City is seeking a candidate for a newly created position within our Finance Department. The Accountant/Auditor will work to help parishes achieve best practice performance standards in accounting & finance.  Position will be a knowledge resource to all parish bookkeepers and pastors regarding accounting procedures & policy and will partner with assigned parishes to review/inspect financial statements, transactional records, budgetary data, performance reports/metrics and internal controls.  May also act as interim or regular parish bookkeeper (working at the chancery). 

Essential duties of this position include:

·  Reviews financial data, supporting documentation and internal controls for compliance with GAAP & diocesan policy.

·  Reviews the parish budget(s), GL & supporting documentation, ensuring revenues & expenditures are recorded accurately and that related reports are presented correctly.

·  As needed, assists with accounting duties for, and corrections to, listed financial records.

·  As appropriate, identifies and recommends updates to accounting systems and procedures.

·  Assists as needed with preparation of parish monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business or related degree plus 5 years of relevant experience.
