Accountant – Payroll & General Accounting (Construction Industry)

Our client, a well-established and growing construction industry related company, is seeking an Accountant to join its collaborative accounting team. This position combines general accounting responsibilities with multi-state union payroll processing, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys learning complex accounting processes.

What You'll Do:

• Process weekly and bi-weekly multi-state union payroll accurately and timely.


• Ensure compliance with union agreements, certified payroll requirements, prevailing wage regulations, and payroll tax reporting.


• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and assist with month-end close.


• Support accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, and other accounting functions as needed.


• Research and apply changing payroll, tax, and compliance requirements across multiple states.


• Collaborate with operations and project teams to ensure accurate payroll and job costing information.


• Assist with audits and special accounting projects.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.


• Experience in accounting, auditing, or public accounting.


• Construction industry experience is a plus, but not required.


• Experience processing multi-state payroll; union payroll experience is highly preferred.


• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.


• Advanced Excel skills and comfort learning new software and processes.


• Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and naturally curious.


• Someone who enjoys stepping into new challenges, learning different business operations, and solving complex accounting issues.
